Very true. UK was bankrupt after the war. The money rebuild a new Britain came from two sources -

• loans from USA which only got paid off recently
• money creamed off the Iranian oil fields which were mostly under Anglo-Persian Oil Company [today the oil giant BP] during 1950s/60s. When the Iranians realized under PM Mossadeq they were being screwed over British MI5 and CIA overthrew him and brought in Shah of Iran.

That crazy hatred you see by Iranians of Britain and USA comes from this period.

Impossible for Pakistan.

A massive earns around Rs1,000 a day or around Rs20,000 a month. That's just about enough to pay for food, electricty and gas.

If you work over-time, you can then buy clothes and afford to send children to schools. Therefore, cannoyt ask the poor populous to pay for anything extra.

The UK has been a very rich nation for a very long time. It had a globetrotting Empire when the NHS, large scale infrastructure and large scale industries were set up.

That has never been the case for Pakistan since inception and will not be for any forseable future. However, there is a small chance that after CPEC is completed in the 2030s, things may radically change for the better.

For now, someone needs to heavily tax all those mansions being built all over the country with remittances by expatriates which is contributing to horrendous inequality instead of opportunity in the country. This money can definitely help with providing some free health services.

People here praising NHS but having lived in UK, i think its not that good. They have a small population and yet the system is so slow. It takes a week or more to get results of tests, which in Pakistan u get within hours. Not to mention appointment is not quick either.For surgeries and big treatments, its a long waiting period and probably gets too late. In contrast the highly populated Pakistani hospitals are quicker and efficient.
I hope this competition for SSP funds improves condition of govt hospitals. Already the HMC in Peshawar is considered very good.

i agree nhs is poor service now. i know ppl fedup and gone private by paying monthly installment. doctors dont even listen or dont know shit. I dont know where they find these incompetent ppl.
i know that in pak it cost you alot but it is very quick but cost for average pak citizen forget it he/she better off at the witch doctors.

Brother, God forbid if anyone ends up in hospital from Pakistani rural areas, they'll have to sell their gold to pay for the treatment.

The system in Pakistan is good for those that have money but not for most Pakistanis.

In the UK, if people want faster medical help, private hospitals are available too.

It all depends what sort of treatment is required and the NHS funds people to go ti private hospitals too when necessary.

But the main point is - Pakistan does not treat ailments as much as the UK does. What I mean by that is that each town, village has its own surgery, pharmacy, clinic, etc. and the number of people going for health care each day far outnumbers what's currently possible in Pakistan.

Take for example, the UK has administered nearly 70 million vaccines to date and Pakistan has only managed it's 10 millionth yesterday. It's going to take at least another 6 months for Pakistan to administer it's 70 millionth.

No and neither do i pay in a govt hospital, to which i am comparing NHS. I can get to see a specialist doctor for my very first visit to a govt hospital without prior appointment on an OPD day, which is 3 to 4 days a week. Try getting an appointment with a specialist in NHS. Yeah govt hospitals are crowded and people act unprofessional but thats how our society is. We see the bad but not appreciate the good.

I was just giving an example. What I meant was that in Pakistan since the 1990s, people are building mansions left, right and centre in all sorts of shapes and sizes.

There needs to be some sort of code that says the bigger the size of property, the higher the tax is applicable to it. This can bring in a lot of tax but who will do this as every politician in Pakistan lives in a mansion and tries to one up the politician sitting to him, with my mansion is bigger than yours mentality.

In the UK, taxi drivers live in a small average sized terraced house but they have Rs500,000 - Rs1,000,000 mansion in Pakistan. Why and they love mentioning it to everyone?

Now through SSP its free for everyone and before this treatment was free in govt hospitals. Not to forget our population is way bigger. The condition of rural hospitals is not good but its improving alot, especially in KPK, not sure abt areas where bhutto is alive. But still this broken and haphazard system is way quicker than the hyped NHS. A simple urine or blood test takes a week or two lolz while in poor Pakistan poor govt hospitals it takes a couple of hours. Cancer patients in NHS have waiting time of months, probably they die before their turn. The main aspect of success against a disease is to treat it as quickly as possible, not through fancy clinics appointments and then waiting for a non specialist doctor to see 4 patients in more than two hours. Its way better than in US but not that good.
Also vaccine is a different story, ppl dnt actually want it here, and if u involve covid then ull find Pakistan did way better than UK.

I am a old man and have decades of experiance with NHS. Yes there are private hospitals better. But for millions of patients every day NHS does a sterling job. Trust me when you need a consultant badly you get it fast. When you need a operation you get it fast. On average the NHS delivers a service across the breadth of this country that is far better than most of the world. In fact NHS in UK has almost a religious following. And it is one of the finest institutions of Britain that most of us are proud.

I totally agree with you on the appointment time scale which is probably the biggest complaint with the NHS but people don't die while on the waiting list except on rare occassions.

There's also the association of high quality treatment from the NHS which I'm not sure whether it's available in Pakistan. I've not visited a big Government run or a private hospital in Pakistan so I can't comment.

Yes, there's a lot of red-tape with the NHS but it's a time tested system that has lasted 7 decades.

true uk taxi drivers but they fuking work hard brother harder than most pak in pak. majority have mental illness or stress related illness. they mention it cos they worked like a dog for it.
why beggars in pakistan have shops, two motorcycles if they are poor.
uk paks are fedup of being leeched they already pay too much for service n guds get ripped off in pak.

why is it one way oh lets tax brit paks oh they should pay more more more plz sir more porridge. lets reverse it after brit paks of doing more for pak in terms for charity, visiting the country paying high fees for being overseas, fighting for paks disgraced reputation, setting up hospitals, building roads although just local ones. has pakistan ever give back something to oversea paks not even pot to piss in. it just all talk from one leader to other.
