Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina leaves for UK
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina left Dhaka for London on Tuesday night on a five-day visit to the UK, at the invitation of the Oxford Union.
On January 27, the prime minister will deliver a speech on World Peace at Oxford Union, which is the world's most prestigious debating society, with an unparalleled reputation for bringing international guests and speakers to Oxford University.
Although it is thought to be basically a private visit, the Prime Minister will meet British Prime Minister David Cameron at 10 Downing Street on January 27, alongside other ministers of the Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition government.
Foreign Minister Dipu Moni told reporters that Bangladesh and Britain have cooperation in many areas. She said defence, counter-terrorism and climate change may come up for particular attention during the Hasina-Cameron meeting.
The prime minister will also attend some programmes at the House of Commons.
On Friday, the Prime Minister is scheduled to hold talks with the Secretary General of the International Maritime Organization, Efthimios Mitropoulos.
On January 29, Hasina will attend the council session of Bangladesh Awami League, UK chapter, while the Bangladeshi community will also give a reception to the Prime Minister on the day.
The prime minister will return home on January 31.
