Prime Minister Modi Fumbles on Pakistan

I'd say the Ops and other efforts against the Taliban were attempt to remedy the same problem.

We sit among starkly different company, in that case.

Attempts, yes, also failures.

Image is easily lost and hard to gain. India has recently developed the title of a rape-ridden country even when the facts don't support it. Facts don't matter.

Another thing, it could be that from intelligence source, Modi found out that Army is going come again in Pakistan and he thought it is better to talk to the real rulers than some pretenders who have know Power of decision making!!
nah pakistan won't see another army coup, PA calls the shot behind the civilian govt anyways and they wouldnt want to spoil this arrangement

India and Pakistan have been talking in air to be precise, pakistan wants kashmir and India doesnt want to budge
both have to do a little give and take

u are right
but the soft image have their draw-backs
when you want to be influential you cannot rely in the soft-image, India would not completely abandon its soft-image neither would we participate in world fight against terrorism by invading countries. We would just have a tougher stand in issues relating to India and be non-aligned to the world as we use to be

you can't be influential by being soft on your own core issues

Indeed, India has been making strides to establish itself as a firm regional player but as I said before, It's India's Diplomatic Corp that deserves a good pat on the back for ensuring that India is still seen as a country with such a soft image, complimented by economic power rather than military.

In that case there is only one peaceful solution to me (as war is not an option). Allow all everyone from every part of India to settle there. Construct satellite townships around Srinagar......:undecided:

Ah yes, International media can really drill down on a particular issue and make it the default identity of a country, that's the same problem that has hurt us. Pakistan isn't as terrorism ridden as foreign media makes it out to be, but now, hardly anyone knows us for anything other than the same.

Yes but we have paid a price for such
We have lost our influence in our neighborhood esp sri lanka, nepal and bhutan
we have to realize without taking out neighborhood into confidence we cannot move forwards, a progressive south asia will elevate india from regional powerhouse to a major world power

we should have done that in 50's as influx in azad kashmir was done, but we choose not too which is better
What we missed out is development of kashmir, while rest of nation saw industrial development why not kashmir ? a richer developed kashmir would have played into India's hand ...we lost the plot our policies were bad

This region was the most prized until it was colonized, I am convinced that with some co-operation and concessions, the regional players can all manage to adapt to a framework that could see this region attain some of its lost glory and still respect the national integrity of each nation.

On the mark buddy...........Talks or No talks. Nothing is going to make a difference.
For now.....Just let things be as they are.....Concentrate on building our Economy, Social state, Military strength and Global position.
We are just too soft and weak. Anybody comes and messes with us.
Its sad and hurts a lot, but true.

Even look at Pakistan...What they are doing against TTP in their own country. US backing or whatever, but they have guts man.

Here we are harboring separatists in our own country, and blaming Pakistan for having talks with them.

Seriously Sad.

The differences have out-grown co-operation
the problem is population! nations here first need to develop themselves before they look for SAARC as a major player
IF they want to look upto SAARC then disputes must be settled, it is stupid to see india doing more trade with china than SAARC combined
Afghanistan should be developed together and can inturn become a Jewel for SAARC with its natural resources

Agreed , sane words.

The bottom line is that we must stop living in the past, reconcile ourselves to both our history & geography and move on.

we can't tackle with naxal's for this long ... yup we lack
But you can't bomb the naxals .. 90% of naxals fight for injustice we have meted out to them, it is our fault ... it is in our interest to resolve things with dialogue .. same is with NE
We need strong policies and need to act quick

I am not talking about Naxals. I am talking about Kashmiri separatists. Why not jail them or house arrest them. Cut off their civil facilities.
Off topic....But not all naxal movements are due to injustice. Some are just furled by cross border agents and our own politicians.

Apart from the your usual bickering ... Let me assure you that here has been NO demographic change in Azad Kashmir to date... Ppl fr other parts of the country can't settle nor buy property there... Even their NIC's are issued and stamped by govt of Azad Kashmir with their logo thingy.

Look at hurrayat 10 years ago and now, they have lost their relevance , putting them behind bars will make them a Hero

India's soft image has been its greatest success so far, it symbolizes everything 'Zen' despite its problems. It would be India's greatest mistake to think that the soft image is hurting their possibilities.
India's soft Image was the worse thing that happened to this country.

Only an assurance, no proof.
