The Pakistan Hindu Council has announced that it will dedicate the Holi to Pakistan National Day, which falls on March 23.

Dr Ramesh Kumar told the official news agency of Pakistan APP that the festival of colours rejuvenates the spirit of fun, freedom, love, respect and happiness to blend myths with religion to promote harmony.

Felicitating the Hindu community on the festival, he said it welcomes spring, brings joy, festivity and happiness for all sections of society and promotes celebration among all communities.

In Pakistan, the Hindu community celebrates the festival with a play of colours and also burns logs of wood to symbolise the victory of good over evil and observe Holi Pooja.

Minister’s sacking

Imran’s government has given special attention to protect the rights of minorities in Pakistan.

Imran recently sacked Information Minister of Punjab Fayyazul Choan for a ‘hate speech’ targeting Hindus

Though he apologised and explained that his remark was geared towards the Hindu community in India, it was not enough to save his skin.

Happy Holi to everyone celebrating in Pakistan, India and elsewhere. One of the most beautiful and colourful festivals in the world, that originated from the ancient Prahalada Bhagat temple (far right) in Multan, Punjab, adjacent to the shrine of Sufi saint Shah Rukn-e-Alam.

Though there are no exact official numbers available, the Pakistan Hindu Council says there are more than 8 million Hindus currently living in Pakistan.

They constitute about 4 per cent of the population of 220 million. They live primarily in the urban areas of the province of Sindh in the lower Indus valley and over half are concentrated in the south-east district of Tharparkar which borders India.

For the most part Hindus in Pakistan are well educated and active in commerce, trade and the civil service.

The Pakistan Hindu Council has announced that it is dedicating this Holi to Pakistan. The festival is being celebrated today (Wednesday) as per the Hindu lunar calendar.

The Pakistan Hindu Council, in connection with Holi and Pakistan Day, will hold a colourful mega event on Wednesday at the Shri Panchumukhi Hanuman Temple in Karachi’s Soldier Bazaar. The event will start at 6:30pm and end at 10:30pm.

According to a press release issued on March 10, a large number of Pakistani Hindu families will hold national flags aloft to demonstrate their love for Pakistan.

“The Pakistani Hindu community has decided to celebrate this Holi in a very unique way,” Pakistan Hindu Council Patron-in-Chief Dr Ramesh Kumar Vankwani told the media.

“This year’s Holi festival will acknowledge the noble achievements of Quaid-e-Azam and our elders to organize historic the Lahore Jalsa on March 23, 1940 to pass the Pakistan Resolution.”

He appealed to everyone to actively participate in Holi celebrations, emphasizing that their presence would deliver a positive message to show solidarity with non-Muslim minorities, promote interfaith harmony, strengthen patriotic zeal and represent a diverse Pakistani society according to Quaid-e-Azam ‘s vision.

The Pakistan Hindu Council has also passed a unanimous resolution against Indian aggression and vowed to support the Pakistan Army in its defence of the country.

“Every year the Holi festival reminds us of the victory of the good over evil. Also known as the festival of colours, it is celebrated all across the world and with every passing year, it is increasing popularity among all faiths,” reads the resolution.

Prime Minister Imran Khan also extended his wishes to the Hindu community on Wednesday.

Hindus celebrate the festival with powdered colours and also burn wood logs to symbolise the victory of good over evil and observe Holi Pooja.

Holi is considered as one of the most revered and celebrated festivals in Hinduism. It is also called as the “festival of love” as on this day people get to unite together forgetting all resentments and all types of bad feeling towards each other.

. . . . . .
I think for ethnic minorities in Pakistan, we should allow them to take their religious holidays off as paid leave, rather than having to take it out of their holiday allowance (obviously this only is for salaried class).

I think it would be a nice iniciative. As an ethnic minority in the UK, i would certainly consider it a good deed. :)

.
Good to see at least some minorities are considered human enough to be mentioned in a positive light by the PM.
