Pakistan and India both have the same kind of parliamentary democracy inherited from the British. Application may differ but the structure is the same.
But in India president is just for namesake with constitutional rights but no practical power. But in Pakistan president has a big role to play as well as PM. Isn't it confusing who is the real head of state with all powers, I mean like PM in India.
before kargil, pakistani gov system was exactly the same as india's.
you may remember that nawaz sharif was the prime minister at that time and he had most of the power..
but it has changed now, president has the power
So Musharraf changed it and Zardari is practicing it. I think Pakistan should go back to original. Its the best way.
No technically primeminister of pakistan is more powerful. Zardari changed it back, however by the virtue that Zardari controls the ppp he could have gillani kicked out so suppose prime minister is more powerfull than president however gillani is a puppet of zardari so he has mor power by virtue of his power in ppp which btw has no internal democracy because it was passed to him bb will. Sad way to run things. bit of a sham democracy. Same with India that India is run by an italian woman. lol
You can call Your president or PM American puppet or anything else you want but do not degrade India's. Sonia Gandhi is Indian and she never lost in an election by the votes of the people. I repeat by the votes of Indians not Italians nor any army generals nor any dictators.
No intention to degrade Sonia Gandhi, but the analogy is perfect. In your case its a widow, in our case its a widower. Imagine if Sonia Gandhi was also the president of India, she would have all the power, even though contitutional powers rest with Manmohan Singh.
No its not , in fact its the opposite -- because the president's powers are constitutional( de jure) while PM exerts de facto power --In fact not even the PM solo but the Cabinet as a whole.
Sonia Gandhi being the chief of the congress is why she exerts power . The reason why such a person of a particular party's high echelons , will always be unsuited as president.President in India is chosen as a politically neutral person , and the post is ceremonial in nature.
So who has de facto power in India, and who should have it according to the constitution?
