dezi in India currently sugar prices are under 30 and Wheat should be closer to 20 as I get best wheat flour for abt 24 per KG.

Thanks Indian members, It was very informative for me....really surprised to see the hiking prices in India as well

Now awaiting for some Pakistani member to share the prices of these food items in Pakistan too as I last time visited Pakistan back in December 2008 so I am only aware of the outdated figures - I am sure a lot has been changed since then

Yes, I agree.. thats why I put a disclaimer(sort of) that some prices may vary from region and the store you are buying. If you are buying branded or local... etc etc.... but the idea was to get a rough estimate... I am surprised most of the prices I quoted are more or less to the mark... given the fact that I have been staying out of India for more than 10 years now (although I visit often)... maybe you guys can give better estimates

Waiting for Zaki's bar graph!

Actually sugar was touching abt 40 few mnths back but it has cm under control after all the inflation cries by parties and action by govt. Though these days prices have been fluctuating a lot and we get sm benefit by buying from big retailers as they have large warehouse capacity.

Can we take a reference of common currency here? other wise too much conversion needs to be done. I will suggest PKR as this is PDF.

.
the value of PKR is just half of INR... so its easy to understand compared to other currencies

This is true only for Indo-Pak prices but what about other currencies? If all of them convert into PKR even then I can compare as you are suggesting.

Actually, prices of goods vary widely in various parts of India. Arriving at a standard figure is tough, but the prices mentioned by Dezi are accurate (slightly on the higher side of the spectrum, I felt).

Just noticed that you've put Iran also in the subject! Is it also considered part of South Asia? I think Iran is very different from the other countries you have mentioned, as far as economy and finances are concerned.
