Prevent India from getting Security Council seat

Islamabad, Oct 12 (IANS) Pakistan should make all efforts to prevent India from getting a permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council so that it does not get the power to block the world body's resolutions on Kashmir, a Pakistani paper said Tuesday.

"By ignoring the UN resolutions on Kashmir, India has lost the confidence of the global community. If it gets into the Security Council and acquires the veto power, it will be able to block any movement on the Kashmir issue as well as any other matter inimical to its interests," an editorial in the Nawa-i-Waqt said.

It claimed that UN Secretary General Ban ki-Mon has also ruled out any expansion of the Security Council and India getting a place in it during his term, which is due to end next year.

"Even after Ban Ki-moon's term ends, India must not be allowed to become a member of the Security Council. Even if the UN wants to expand the Security Council, why must the claims of Pakistan be overlooked?"

The editorial said even as India has making all efforts to get into the Security Council, it was "unfortunate" that the Pakistani envoys to the UN and the US were "unequal to the task and playing into the hands of the Indian lobby".

"It was their responsibility to focus the world's attention on India's real and perfidious face and how it is trampling on human rights in Kashmir. Our envoy to the UN, Hussain Haroon is under the spell of his Indian counterpart," it alleged.

The editorial said that now the UN chief had ruled out any expansion in the near future, Pakistan must make a concerted effort to block India's chances for once and all, as well as make the UN intervene in the Kashmir issue to solve it in tune with its resolutions and the Kashmiri peoples' aspirations.

Giving India permanent seat is tantamount to supporting a terrorist.

Due to Indian State terrorism in Kashmir, the region is a flash point for a nuclear war. In such a situation an irresponsible country like India does not deserve to be given a permanent seat

I respect your opinion, but the reality is that India is very likely going to get a permanent seat, perhaps within the next decade or so, due to other considerations that will overshadow Kashmir.

Cry as much as you want.
Shout as much as you want.
Do whatever you want.

You cannot stop India, you simply can't. Your choosing to look the other doesn't erase the writing on the wall.

If you want to be an ostrich, be my guest.

A permanent UNSC seat for India is only a matter of 'when' and not 'if'.

May be 5, 10 or 15 years but whenever the UNSC reform process gets underway, it will be impossible for the world powers to keep a biilion people with growing economic clout and global clout out of the UNSC.

In short, not giving India the permanent UNSC seat (with or without veto) will do more harm to UNSC than it will do to India.

It will only make UNSC almost entirely irrelevant. I don't think UN would want to lose its relevance in an increasingly multi-polar world in which China and India are being touted as the countries to which the 21st century will belong.

The other factors are there. lets see even those factors are not valid to give India a seat. There are too many bones to pick in this.

How many are going to be ready to give veto power to India ?

There are many factors ranging from Russia to Iran to China to US.

Above this club already is not worthy to exist bringing more unworthy ones making it few selected ones Vs the World.

So in other words its the money for the 4 existing members ?? if so then what is the purpose of the UNSC if it is working for individual countries then it should be disbanded.

Imposing them on entire world is imperialism which one day is going to backfire

Ask that of the Bugti's.. if they will spare your ilk..

There were these stories doing the rounds that during the recent floods escaping rest-of-pakistanis were dragged out of their cars and shot upon arrival in Balochistan.

Welcome to the wild wild..

Can someone put some sense in the head of this Indian here ???

:what:

If it is all about the 'dispute' in legal terms, why is it that many of you (not all), bring in things such as "oppression of Muslims" into this, eh? If you do such things, we can also speak about your oppresion of Balochis, Pakhtuns and many more things.

Instead of being pragmatic, you people are foolishly emotional/sentimental. The LOC=Border solution is the best one, but you don't even want to discuss it. Suits us fine, keep crying yourselves hoarse about it for decades!

:what:

Is there anything incorrect in what he said? Is it true that in Balochistan around a month back, people were stopping cars on the road and shooting Punjabi speaking people! It has also been discussed on PDF!

India has the world's second largest population and is the world's largest liberal democracy. It is also the world's eleventh largest economy and fourth largest in terms of purchasing power parity. Currently, India maintains the world's third largest active armed force. India is the third largest contributor of troops to United Nations Peacekeeping missions.

India's bid is backed by permanent members France, Russia & United Kingdom. The Chinese government in Beijing has recently advocated the candidacy.

Also, several countries like Bangladesh,Chile, Australia, Czech Republic & African Union have openly supported India's candidacy.

Taking into account its huge population and growing economic and political clout, India is a strong contender to clinch a permanent seat.

Another factor which bolsters India's candidature is the fact it has participated in several of its activities, including UN operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Cyprus, Cambodia, Yemen, Somalia, Rwanda , Namibia.

We are not discussing 'should', 'purpose' etc. you see.

There are many things which 'should' happen in this world but they don't.

What IS going to happen is that India is going to get a UNSC seat. Like it or not.:D

As far as 'disbanding the UNSC is concerned, you seriously think power hungry countries such as the US/UK/Russia/China/India etc. will give up the trappings a UNSC entails?

If you think so, then I'm really very sorry but you are living in wonderland where everything is utopian. Doesn't happen in the real world you see.

Imposing them on entire world is imperialism which one day is going to backfire

Chalo fine then. You keep waiting for the day while we make hay while the sun shines.

Don't be an emotional fool Jana, be practical. The writing on the wall is for all to see!

India is all set to win a temporary seat on the United Nations (UN) Security Council.

In Tuesday's vote, five of 10 non-permanent seats will be filled. All 10 countries are elected to the two-year post and elections to the 5 seats will take place today.

India's main ambition remains a permanent seat in the Security Council. India still needs 128 votes to be formally elected, but it is confident. India will replace Japan if the elected.

Tuesday's election could produce South Africa, India and Brazil Alliance.

Personally I feel a seat on the UNSC is relevant but not important.

India needs simply to focus on itself and the rest will follow. As regards denying the seat for one reason or another - if India gets the seat it will be reasons beyond the control of Pakistan and if India does not get it Pak would have little to do with it.
