PTI to back PPP candidate for Senate deputy chairman slot

Another U-turn

ISLAMABAD - In a complete reversal of its position for the third consecutive time within a span of three days on the election of chairman and deputy chairman Senate , Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan Saturday announced that his party was ready to support the candidate of Pakistan People’s Party for the slot of deputy chairman Senate .

PTI Chairman Imran Khan made this announcement indirectly while addressing a joint press conference at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House along with Balochistan Chief Minister Abdul Quddus Bizenjo.

Earlier, PTI leadership, including KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak held a meeting with Bizenjo who heads the group of independent senators-elect from Balochistan.

A day earlier, the PTI chairman had outrightly ruled out the possibility of supporting any PPP-nominated candidate for the top two Senate slots. Imran had said that PTI would not vote for any candidate of PML-N and PPP for these slots as “shaking hands with PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari and his likes would be tantamount to contradicting the party’s 22 years long struggle against corruption.”

Changing his stance on Saturday, Imran said that his party was ready to vote a panel of nominees of the CM Balochistan and that includes a PPP candidate for the position of deputy chairman .

The CM Balochistan on the occasion said they had suggested two names of independent senators-elect from the province, Anwarul Haq Kakar and Sadiq Sanjrani, to the PTI for the slot of chairman Senate . The two names emerged after Bizenjo’s back to back meetings with the leadership of PPP and PTI .

In his presser, Imran Khan at first avoided to categorically mention his support for PPP’s nominee for deputy chairman slot. When asked if his party would support deputy chairman of PPP , he said: “The CM Balochistan has requested us to support whole panel for the slot of chairman and deputy chairman Senate…all senators of PTI would vote for the panel.” He further said that PTI had been assured that chairman senate would be nominated from amongst the six independent senators from Balochistan.

PTI Chief Imran Khan said his party wanted to give representation to FATA by electing deputy chairman hailing from that area but now the CM Balochistan had requested them that for a bigger consensus PTI should support anyone he (Bizenjo) would suggest.

Imran Khan said it would be first time in the country’s parliamentary history that Senate chairman would be elected from the most deprived province of Pakistan.

Bizenjo on the occasion thanked both the PTI and PPP leadership saying it became possible after the PTI chief gave him a free hand by placing support of his all 13 senators at his disposal. “Credit goes to Imran Khan as after his offer, we are in a position to properly negotiate with other political parties, including the PPP ,” he said. He also appreciated PPP for surrendering its chairman Senate candidate for the sake of Balochistan although it had strength of 20 senators in the house.

Bizenjo hoped that all other parties would support their panel especially those having representation from Balochistan, including Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP), National Party, JUI-F, and others.

Soon after the press conference, a spokesperson of PTI in a statement said that PTI would support the panel of independent senators-elect of Balochistan. PTI will support the nominee of this panel for the slot of deputy chairman irrespective of the fact that it belonged to PPP or any other political party, the statement said.

These thick jahils of PMLN don't realise who benefited from NRO, and who signed the charter of democracy (COD) it was PMLN and PPP, I don't have a problem if PTI and PPP bring in senate chairman of their choice as this will stop the forsaken family of dirty Godfather, if PMLN senate chairman comes in, they will bend the rules to bring back in the dirty Godfather, and then ultimately will hold this country hostage for decades.

This is another evidence that all this is a power politics, and all parties including, PMLN, PTI and PPPP are doing this... no difference...
The only difference is that PTI was once used to blame PPPP and PMLN for Muk Muka, but now curtains falling down one after another & this recent move (using Baluchistan CM's shoulder to vote PPPP candidate for deputy Chairman) plus Mall road jalsa (TuQ, Zardari, IK) clears a fact to everyone that all those accusations of Muk Muka were an eye wash, and PTI is no different, and can do Muk Muka with anyone for Political benefit, this time its with PPPP, and remember PPPP's guilts/crimes i.e Uzair Baloch (target killing,terrorism plus relations with RAW i.e Kulbhushan yadav), doctor asim plus Ayyan ali money laundering For zardari, swiss bank accounts, china cutting, extortion by PPP in karachi, rental power plants, memogate, Hussain Haqqani, Nisar Morai crimes for zardari etc. ect. etc., meaning all crimes of PPPP stand null and void for PTI now ..., now let us make an assumption like a case study & replace current position of PPPP with PMLN...right..., meaning PPPP in govt in center plus ruling Punjab, zardari disqualified and, PMLN in sindh govt...in that situation IK & PTI will surely be standing with PMLN to oust Zardari & PPPP from Punjab, so its a battle for Punjab since its inception, Meaning there is no struggle for justice, only power politics...Senate Chairman matter aside, end of the day all parties especially PTI want Punjab be fetched away from PMLN by hook or by crook...

I must admit, IK has really played well here. He didn't backed PPP nominee altogether infact had that been the case,one would had concluded as PPP-PTI official alliance. Getting a neutral Chairman, despite of having lesser seats than PPP, is indeed an achievement of IK. In all ways, PML-N has turned out to be very bad losers despite of having more seats in the senate. Heck they even begged for PPP's Raza Rabbani earlier just to defeat PTI proposal but all in vain. In short, PTI =1 ,PPP =0.5, PMLN =0.

Can’t exclude possibility of alliance with Imran: Khursheed Shah

SUKKUR: Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Khursheed Shah said on Sunday that the Pakistan Peoples Party cannot exclude the possibility of either seat adjustment or contesting the general elections in 2018 with Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.

While speaking to media in Sukkur, Shah said that there is no last word in politics, adding that Imran Khan and former president Asif Ali Zardari getting along with each other will be a good sign.

The opposition leader while responding to a question did not exclude the option of any possible alliance with the PTI, saying that anything can happen in this regard.

Khursheed Shah also expressed optimism regarding PPP leader and Senator Sherry Rehman being elected the leader of the Opposition.

The ruling PML-N lost the race to appoint their favoured candidates to the top Senate slots as Sadiq Sanjrani, an opposition-backed candidate from Balochistan, was appointed Senate chairman in March.

Sanjrani, an independent, had been backed by the PPP, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P).

The PPP nominated Senator Sherry Rehman for the post of Senate opposition leader, the party's Chairman Bilawal Bhutto had confirmed.

Bilawal said the PPP will be making history by nominating the first woman to lead the opposition and expressed hope for her victory.

Sherry will easily become Senate opposition leader: Khursheed Shah

SUKKUR: Opposition Leader in National Assembly and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Syed Khursheed Shah on Sunday said that their doors are open for everyone whether it is Imran Khan or someone else.

“Imran Khan has supported us in the Senate elections but the opposition leader in Senate would be from PPP and Sherry Rehman would easily acquire that slot,” he said.

Talking to media at NICVD Hospital Sukkur, Shah said that politics is a service to the masses and he prays for those doing politics to become true politicians.

Praising the services at NICVD, he said that the service from the hospital in less than a month was exemplary. He said that PPP is the only party that diverted attention towards the welfare of the masses and raised the minimum salary from 8000 to 15000.

Imran says he won’t vote for PPP though PTI did in Senate poll: Bilawal

SUKKUR: Commenting on Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairperson Imran Khan’s recent remarks regarding the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), its chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari said on Friday that Mr Khan had claimed that he would never vote for the PPP, but his own party did that in the Senate elections recently, and now he has started denying that. “The ink stain on your thumb with which you voted for our vice chairperson candidate hasn’t even dried yet... we hope you will continue to support us in the future too,” he quipped.

Mr Bhutto-Zardari continued to lash out at the PTI chief, saying that Mr Khan was a hypocrite for condemning corruption even though he was surrounded by “politicians convicted of corruption”.

The mainstream political parties had ever done politics only to serve the country’s elite, whereas the PPP had always spoken for the country’s underclass, he said, adding that the PTI and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) were pushing ahead with an aggressive privatisation agenda.

PPP chairman voices concern over sea erosion of Sindh’s coastal areas

Addressing party workers and supporters in Ghotki, the PPP chairperson thanked the constituents of PS-7, Ghotki, for voting for Abdul Bari Pitafi, the PPP candidate, in the by-election held last month.

Mr Bhutto-Zardari visited Raja Mahar House, Adil Pur, Jam House and Bari Pitafi House in Mirpur Mathelo and Khalid Abad in Ghotki.

“All political parties in the country had opposed us in this election... the political orphans of Sindh and the rest of the country’s political trash had decided to give us a tough time, but the people of Ghotki proved that they had stood by (PPP founding chairperson) Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto and are now with Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari,” he said.

He said this was but a trailer of what would unfold in Sindh in the upcoming general elections, when the PPP’s political slogans will ring from every polling station.

The country’s political elite made policies and launched loan and tax amnesty schemes only to benefit the rich, but the PPP had always stood for the rights of the poor, he added. “Zulfiqar Bhutto had snatched away land from large landowners and distributed it among the poor,” he claimed, adding that Z.A. Bhutto had built national institutions to benefit the masses.

The PPP chairman said the PML-N government was working only for their rich friends and they were taking away “your IA and Steel Mills and giving them to their friends”.

Responding to a comment regarding continuing unscheduled loadshedding of up to 18 hours in rural Sindh, Mr Bhutto-Zardari expressed sympathy and said the summer season was approaching and it was possible that the situation would further worsen. “The PML-N had promised an end to loadshedding... they had made this claim again during the winter when demand for electricity was low, but as soon as the first signs of summer began their fraud was exposed,” he said, adding that the PPP was looking at alternative energy and preferred to take a holistic approach to the problem of the energy crisis.

He said the Sindh government was working on a coal power plant as well as wind, gas and solar energy projects. “Other provinces need to step up too,” he added.
