President Xi wants China's military to match its international status

If China wants to take its military to the next level, then it needs to expand its military export market. China, at the moment, only caters exports to poorer developing nations, even though China have weapons that rival Western and Russian offerings. China need to address the perception that Chinese weapons are inferior to Western and Russian arms. This is why I think a limited conflict with either Vietnam or Philippines, over SCS dispute, could be a great opportunity to show the World the effectiveness of modern Chinese weapons. By using overwhelming firepower on weak enemies, like Vietnam or Philippines, it will demonstrate the worth of Chinese weapons, just in the same way USA uses the same strategy against weakling nations.

If China hopes to become a World Power, then it first needs to show it is the Regional Power in Asia. Putting countries, like Vietnam and Philippines, in their place would go a long way to demonstrate China's new military prowess. Let's hope Vietnam or Philippines give China an excuse to use its new toys.

Seeking an excuse for invasion? Why not ask the Japanese? they have good experience in invading a certain country. I forgot the name yet. The Japanese can teach you.

Where did I say invasion?

I said a limited conflict. For example, if Vietnam Navy foolishly fires at a Chinese vessel, China can retaliate and sink a few Vietnamese ships or subs.

Trading tit for tat is not Machiavellian style. Should Viet fire first, it' is a signal from heaven to destroy their navy.

Brilliant!

I wonder why nobody had such idea.

Xi Jinping should promote you to captain of the vessel that is ready to sacrifice for the motherland china. Any last words before we fire a salvo of antiship missiles into your big mouth?

.
If thing is so easy, so why spending time and money on aircraft carriers, destroyers, frigates? All for show and parade?

Ever thought for a second your opponent might have the capability to strike back?

This is the umbrella for our future navy.

In the future naval warfare, any naval power without the space superiority will become the WWII naval power without the air superiority.

Without friends and allies you can't project power even in the South China Sea. Not in East China Sea. Nowhere. You are like a rich kid having a super expensive Ferrari but only drives in his garden.

Not when "allies" are but freeloaders. The alliance system is not only a drain on your resources, but they could drag you into unwanted war just as how Japan dragged Germany into a war with the US when itself was already struggling on the Eastern front.
US will face a major dilemma when it's itching finger "allies" starts a war with its giant neighbors. Anyone remember how WWI started? These are liability not asset.

But Vietnam also wants to be one of the freeloaders, since they are begging the Arleigh Burke class DDG and Virginia class SSN for free.

What makes you believe China has the "umbrella" of all umbrellas and others not?
