Preservation of the very rare Arabian Leopard in Tai'f - KSA

Man ,you guys should make sure you do not loose these beautiful cats . we lost one big Cat in India( Asiatic Cheetah) because we did not try enough . Learn from our mistakes :) .

We lost the Asiatic Cheetah's recently as well, LOL. And so many other animals, Lions etc. It's kind of sad but this is inevitable. The big animals will only survive in national parks and very isolated places in 100 years time. I am sure of this unfortunately. At least outside of Africa if things are not done rightly.

well they are considered critically endangered species , sad thing about them is we managed to stop poacher hunting them but sadly there is one thing we still could not achieve and is their death in road accident , just this year three of them died in road accident and one of those had some cubs that they didn't manage to find and save . but on other hand this year we managed to find two mother one with 3 cubs and another with 4 cubs
this is a beautiful picture of the result of Iran working on the preservation of these beauties

Before this threads turn totally off-topic, after all this is about the Arabian Leopard, then there have been sightings of cheetahs in Yemen and Oman but they are probably escaped animals from the wild. There is a big illegal market of lions, tigers, cheetahs etc. that are smuggled from the Horn of Africa to Yemen. Apparently there are only 50 wild cheetahs left in Iran (Khorasan).

Some people in KSA use or have used cheetah's as pets and many use them for hunting and there have been instances of them escaping into the wild.

The cheetahs on Sir Bani Yas Island are the only wild cheetahs in the U.A.E.

tracked and monitored by the conservation team
on the island.

April 2010. The last known Arabian cheetah was shot in Saudi Arabia in 1950, though they may have hung on in Oman until around 1970. Now 4 cubs have been born in the wild in a nature reserve on an island off the coast of the United Arab Emirates. Wildlife Extra believes that this is also the first time that cheetah have successfully been reintroduced into the wild anywhere in the world.

There are probably hundreds of cheetahs in KSA in private hands. Theoretically speaking they could be brought back to nature or into national parks etc.

ANYWAY not the topic.

You want a date?

Yes, that's me about 1.5 years ago when I was back home wearing some traditional clothes.

Seen me before in Copenhagen since you ask?

More photos of the Arabian Leopard:

Those big cats are amazing.

I wonder if there can be a national park solely dedicated for such big cats one day in KSA.

That would be amazing and I am sure that it would be hugely popular. But idiotic human beings are killing the nature off and not preserving it. What has happened in the ME is just a tiny part of it. Go to Africa or Latin America to see destructions of the nature.

It's really shameful. I am normally not your "global warming" lunatic but I would like to still see such big cats in the wild. Zoo's are just not the same thing.

@HAIDER

So a thread called "Preservation of the very rare Arabian Leopard in Ta'if - KSA" made you think about Omar Al-Mukhtar who was an Libyan freedom fighter that was executed by the Italians 70 years ago if my memory serves me right?

Say what?

@ChineseTiger1986 probably since all prehistoric animals, especially the predators seems to have been bigger than the current lot alive today.

Bengal tigers are Native to Areas in and near Bangladesh but due to over population in that region few hundred tigers are left there . But now thanks to PROJECT TIGER we have replenished tiger population in most of the Jungles across India . Here's one map to explain it

map_2012.jpg

See how we have not tried anywhere near Gir in Gujarat because we don't want two top predators conflicting and lion population is just between 200-400 .

Tigers on an average eat 14 kg of meat . They hunt variety of deers ,boar , Gaur ( Largest bovine on the planet) and occasionally elephants as well .

Gaur is known to kill tigers and tiger is known to kill gaurs . Just to give you an idea , these are gaur
