Pran to make Gillette razors for P&G

Star Business Report

Pran yesterday said to have entered into a contract with the Procter & Gamble (P&G) to manufacture and supply razors for the American multinational consumer goods corporation.

The facility to produce "Gillette Guard Razor Blades" was virtually inaugurated yesterday, said Pran in a press statement.

"It sends a very strong signal not only to other US companies but all over the world. That is because of P&G's size, reputation and position as a successful global company," said Salman F Rahman, the prime minister's private industry and investment adviser.

Advance Personal Care, a sister concern of Pran, will operate the manufacturing facility at Habiganj. Annually it targets to make around 75 lakh razors.

Pran will not market the P&G's products which it would be making, said the statement.

This is yet another step by Pran to manufacture products under contract arrangements as part of its business expansion drive.

One of the major business entities operating in diversified areas, namely processed foods and plastics, Pran-RFL Group manufactures a host of products in food and non-food categories in its facilities.

These range from juice, beverage, yogurt drink, biscuit, puffed rice and noodles to confectionery items. It also makes products for Coca-Cola, Del Monte Foods, Dollarama, Engel Foreign Food, Sherwood Food Distributors and Global Food Trade, said Pran.

Pran said it was engaged in contract manufacturing to earn foreign currency, generate employment and gain experience by working with multinational companies.
Another aim is to make complete use of its production capacity.

The new manufacturing facility to make razors will go into operation this month.

"We are proud to be P&G's partner in manufacturing superior products for Bangladeshi consumers," said Ahsan Khan Chowdhury, chairman and chief executive of Pran-RFL Group which has a yearly turnover of over Tk 14,000 crore.

Madhusudan Gopalan, chief executive of P&G South Asia, said the arrangement would enable it to serve its consumers further.

"It also builds on our commitment to invest in Bangladesh which will contribute towards advancing the country's social and economic development by creating employment and partnering opportunities," he said.

US Ambassador to Bangladesh Earl R Millar termed the day vital as the P&G joined with other US firms to tap into the potential of Bangladesh as a major manufacturing base.

Md Sirazul Islam, executive chairman of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority, hoped for jobs to be created for youths through the initiative.

Just don’t buy Gillette. I stopped because they made an ad blaming men to be evil and to change our behavior bs
You are talking about the below ad.
The presentation was absolute crap which rubs people the wrong way. They made it sound like men are rapists by default.
I don't think they actually meant to villify men in general but specifically address toxic masculinity. There are so many better ways they could have addressed it to men's liking.

.........................................

Hope Pran does not add lead and disgusting food colouring to the razors too.

When I buy my razors I don’t need the razor company telling how people who carry the same genitals as me are. I just want to know if my blades are made of good alloys and are of high quality. That definitely rubbed the wrong way and they lost billions in sales. I was using their razors for years until I came across that last year. Dropped it and got me a straight razor, it’s better if you want to style a beard anyways and is cheap compared to Gillette

Well no beard here but I use the old "Dad" style safety razor, lot cheaper than buying the five/seven blade crap which wears out a lot sooner and proprietary cartridges are expensive, Gillette is minting money from these and people are still buying them, haemorrhaging money. Even store brand cartridges are getting expensive.

This one is a German Merkur for around $40 but you can get Chinese ones that look similar on eBay for a lot less, within say 5 bucks or so. The old style single blades cost like pennies (they come in packs of 100's), I've even used Chinese ones which are nice and sharp. You have to be a bit more careful, holding skin tighter.

Here's a Chinese Single blade safety razor for $9 which will last a lifetime - chrome plated brass.

While you're at it use a Shaving Brush too - these are also available for pretty cheap on Amazon or eBay. The better ones are made from Badger hair. A warm shave is a weekend luxury for me. :-)

This is my current weapon of choice. Used to like Mach 3 until the Gillette ad and also price were silly

I got this 100 pack derby blades, sharp and precise finishing for neck/cheek line, I throwaway after every use no matter if I trimmed or clean shaved. I don’t use shaving cream because read a paper on how they effect our family jewels, warm water and steady hands does the trick. Had couple of nicks first few tried though.
always end with a beard oil/butter though. Helps with the growth.

I have used straight razor or cut throat blade for a long time. All I can say is your beard hair will become very very rough. to the point where you will constantly scrub your face.

My beard has always been rough and since it’s still filling in in some spots it’s difficult to grow it from zero... beard oil/ butter helps a ton to keep it soft
I just use electric trimmers to maintain a 2 mm 5 o clock shadow. Efficient, one-time cost, and doesn't cut my face.
I’ve been on this train for the longest time. I want to grow a respectable beard now. Then give it a good barber shop finish in June/July

Good call on the cutter and the accessories 8-). I haven't tried beard butter. So far I only have organic shea butter, from Ghana, that I've used.

Derby is an excellent choice for blades, don't know where they are made.

Korean blades (like Dorco) are my go-to choice for everyday smoother (not aggressive) shave which are really cheap ($7 or so for 100 blades). Kai and Feather are reputed Japanese brands that make all kinds of sharp blades and accessories for cutting work.

For times when I need a really close shave I turn to my stash of Feather (Japanese) blades, which are double the price compared to Dorco and much sharper. You have to be very careful using them though, they're so sharp you'll peel off your skin if you aren't careful.

Chinese blades like Weishi I've heard good things about, but haven't tried them. Weishi makes nice basic single blade razors and blade-changer handles as well.

Pran will not market the P&G's products which it would be making, said the statement.

I think this is a great move by PRAN to gather profits from volume OEM manufacturing. Hope they did not sign any exclusivity agreement with P&G India, as that would give PRAN the freedom to manufacture for other brands, including their own if they decide to later.

This is the exact strategy employed by Chinese companies.

Once you have the manufacturing capability initially for an assured product volume, you can buy brands and branch off into marketing your own stuff in later stages for various local and overseas markets, depending on pricing and targets.

How do you use the Shea butter. i used to buy the London shaving cream but for ten pounds over I thought i try derby stick not as good but cost effective does the job.

Edwin Jagger DE89 Chrome Knurled DE Safety Razor (Closed Comb)

i got this but i also got a very good copy i am sure the copy is made in pakistan.
i have a chinese copy of the german merkur it is called ming shi.

i got the ever ready vintage this style razor very similar to carpet blades.

I also got wilkinsons 5 blades, dorco 7 blade, gillette but these are now surplus.
I tried this trick i found on the web, that is to get the razor blade and rubb on jeans or towel and this keeps it sharp and last longer. i tried olive oil and stored the blade in it but the oil turns nasty after abit.
