LAHORE: The ongoing electricity loadshedding duration has dropped significantly with power shortfall coming down to 900MW only.

The overall shortfall, which normally lingers around 4000 to 5000 for most of the simmer season, is down to 900MW only due to rise in power production, courtesy IPPs and hydel projects.

The gap between demand and supply has narrowed because of the increase in hydel and IPPs electricity production.

According to Pepco, current power generation is 13280MW against the total demand of 14200 MW. This relief has also been transferred to the consumers.

Meanwhile, Karachi is also regularly getting 600 MW of agreed amount of electricity.

This is really good news, but seriously, power generation is at 13280MW? It was 10,000 MW just a couple of weeks back, how did it increase so much in so little time?

you can check in the previous thread ther was only demand for 1400MG and now 900..

only 2 hours or sometime 3 power cut in bannu

Circular debt was cleared- IPPs which were out of action coz they were not able to buy heavy oil came back in action.

water level in the rivers rose due to melting of snow increasing the hydel generation.
plus some demand also fell due weather becoming pleasant.

problem with circular debt is that its not a one time thing...it always rebuilds itself due to line losses and non payment by consumers.
already in this govts tenure this is the second time they are clearing the circular debt.

real shortfall will be seen in next few months when demand rises(due to summer) plus water level in the rivers will be low...and if then some
IPPs are knocked out action due to circular debt, then things can get real messy.

It needs to be checked that the gap between demand and supply has narrowed whether due to the increase in supply or due to the decrease in demand. The demand must have decreased now as comapred to the peaked demand durring summer.

Do we know what was the total Power generation back then and what is it now?

Decrease in demand doesnot create increase in supply.
clearly demand must have decreased but supply has also increases from
9000MW to 13000 MW due to the reasons mentioned above.

Actually after the steps taken by the Prime Minister peoples are willing to listen and trying to save electricity + some rental power plants have been inaugurated recently and more coming in coming months and water level in rivers is also high like someone else mentioned in this thread.

The most interesting point is we have managed to reduce our circular debts and the plants that were shut have been reopened resulting in sudden increase in the power generation we can generate even more electricity by pre-installed IPPs if the whole of the circular debt is cleared off.

Glad to see the gap bewteen Generation and demands plunged to 900MW only. Hopefully after the small hydro power projects are in operational and IPPs are installed we can keep this shortfall below 2000MW until 2015-2017 when the long term projects of Hydro, IP Gas pipeline and coal power projects will be completed and we may overcome power crisis too

Where have I said that the decrease in demand has increased the supply??? read my post again, carefully.

I was questioning the actual cause of the reduction of gap between the demand and supply. That can be caused by 'decrease in demand' or 'by increase in supply' or by both.

^^^Well its a well documented fact upto a month go PEPCO estimated Pakistan's electricity production was around 9000Mw and now it is 13000MW.
So clearly supply has gone up due to IPPs(circular debt being cleared),hydel(due to water in rivers rising), and RPPs of upto 1000 MW are being brought into action)

Any drop in demand, will be only temporary due to -
1. Pakistan's economy is growing.

2. It is not peak summer yet ...(ppl are not using A.C)

3.Water in rivers will decrease, once the snow melts completely.

4.Bans which were imposed in energy conference were purely cosmetic in nature.
ie All shops were suppose to close at 8PM ...clearly that is not in effect yet.

5.Line losses which are the primary cause for building of circular debt have not been rectified yet ..so eventually circular debt will again build up.
