Postpaid mobile phone services in Kashmir restored

GOI should take its time and restore services systematically, there is no country that can pressure us on how we should handle problems in our own territory.
People can complain about the inconvenience faced in the 2 months which is not ideal and very sad, but they can complain only if they are alive. Lives are more important, as we have learnt from previous conflicts.

Jammu: Postpaid mobile telephone services were restored in Jammu and Kashmir from Monday almost two months after the administration imposed a lockdown in the state after the scrapping of Article 370 and snapped communication lines. Partial fixed line telephony was resumed in the Valley on August 17 and by September 4, nearly 50,000 landlines were declared operational.

The state administration had announced on Saturday that about 40 lakh postpaid mobile phones will become operational from Monday noon. Over 20 lakh prepaid mobile phones, besides the mobile and other internet services, however, will remain suspended for now.

"When the curbs on the cell phones have been taken away, we are expecting large number of tourists to come there (Kashmir). We are also expecting that people, if they are somehow not able to do normal activities, have no more excuse not to do that," Governor Satya Pal Malik's advisor Farooq Khan had told reporters on the sidelines of a function here.

Asserting that radicalisation does not have any place in Jammu and Kashmir, he said the Valley youths have given a go-by to the radicalisation despite the best possible efforts by Pakistan which has left no stone unturned to destroy the beautiful state.

In reply to another question about the spurt in grenade attacks by terrorists including the one at Hari Singh High Street in Srinagar on Saturday which left seven pedestrians injured, Khan said "a grenade attack here and there is not going to make any effect on the situation.

"Our neighbour (Pakistan) will continue to try its best to disturb the peace in Jammu and Kashmir but we are strong enough and have shown our resilience. The state has shown its resilience towards any such despicable actions by this neighbour," he said.

At a separate function here this afternoon, the advisor said the administration is aware of the reservation expressed by the people over the newly set up toll plaza at Sarore on Jammu-Pathankot highway.

"Better roads, bridges and tunnels are being constructed across the country under public-private partnership to provide good infrastructure to the people. The toll plaza's are being set up for time being to return money to the company involved in the construction work," he said.

Khan, however, said the concerned ministry will take up the issue with National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to address the concern of the people.

Politicians cutting across party lines have joined the popular demand for dismantling of the toll plaza at Sarore in Samba district. On manhandling of a driver by a toll plaza contractor and his staff, Khan said, "The law will take its own course."

"Nobody is allowed to take law into his own hands. If somebody has done this, the law is there and appropriate action will be taken against the accused," he said.

For this I have to commend the foresight of the central government but also sympathise with our brothers and sisters from J&K and Ladakh.

It hasn't been an easy time but it's important to not let someone use this situation to cause problems there. A little more time, and both J&K and Ladakh will finally be what it was supposed to be. A beautiful but also a developed state, fully integrated with India.

I too feel the same..it's extremely commendable how indian establishment has handled the whole situation..I should be honest that When article 370 was repealed,I was extremely worried and apprehensive about the violence that would follow...but nearly 3 months on ,apart from sporadic minor stonepelting here and there nothing unwarranted has happened...slowly but gradually kashmir is coming back to normalcy..
Curfew has been lifted...restrictions on the movement of people have been eased...now phones are back...but i dont think mobile internet will be back for another 2 or 3 months.
What BJP govt has showed is ,if you have will ,we can solve any problem..
I dont think congress would have taken such a step...even if taken woould have implemented it this peacefully.

Indians will not know what hit them. Kashmiris are ready to take the fight to streets of India ISIS style.

That is what you want..what you want to happen..but nothing of that sort is gonna happen ..two reasons:
1)indian govt has stripped complete power of J&K politicians and taken the power into its hands...
2)Pakistan cant support kashmir militants as it is in danger of being blacklisted by FATF.

Lol stooges never had power anyway. Kashmiris dont need our help either this time. They know that removing 370 mean ethnic cleansing. Pakistan will watch from distance.

Yes and unfortunately timeline of getting back to normal isn't in India's hands.

You have Pakistan across border, ready to fuel any fire they see.

And all it takes is one Buran Wani like terrorist to make the situation worse. Let's see, I think the only way to show Kashmiris (all of them) peace is the only way forward is by doing some actual development there.
