Post Internet Speed

welcome to the magic of fibre optic! :tup:

In theory I could get up to 100 mbits in down and up to 5 in up. However,depending on the area,some can get up to 1 gigabit in down and up to 60 in up if I am not wrong.

Obviously,I am happy with what I have,that's still way better than my adsl connection. :victory:

The speed will go up with time, when they rolled out fibre optic in my area the max was 50mbs and 7 years later it's peaked to 1Gbs. the 1Gbs is very tempting:agree:.

@Kaptaan

@Blue Marlin That's the 5 ghz.

Obviously I am in hype mode after the dreadful internet speed I always had.

. .
Rubbish internet where I am
Can just about get whatsapp

Wifi through wimax and the modem I had has been switched off by the provider with no replacement

Thinking of getting a WiMAX modem from US to bring here but not sure if it'll work

Doing my head in

.
This is WIRELESS right now----the router / modem are about 30 feet away.

I have learned that my ISP is currently upgrading the cable network in the area. Looking forward to significant speed increase.

now them speeds are good and expected. heck only virgin media sell packages 100mbps+

now dont cock it up and leave it like that.

Let's hope everything goes well. For now it does. Internet is good,TV services are excellent,the other services I get are really good. For now no problems.

@Blue Marlin

The first two networks are mine. So I have an easy acess either to the 5GHz or the 2.4GHz. (just below)

thats good, make sure you change your ssid(name of the wifi) to a custom one with a memorable long password. the 5ghz band is only good for devices what are near the router, but is obivously faster as its a shorter band wave. as where the 2.4 ghz is slower but faster as its a longer bandwidth. if your a nerdy techie guy get a 3rd party router and have after market antennas. also check which channel to wifi is on. you can manually check by
by downloading this application. https://www.acrylicwifi.com/en/wlan-software/wlan-scanner-acrylic-wifi-free/
the non overlapping channels are 1,6 and 11 those are the 3 main ones. you pick the channel that no-one has so you get less interference. picking auto may just be better(if your lazy) but its good to be sure.

if you just cant cba and you live in a small house then dont bother getting a new router. and just change the ssid and password for security.

also check for area's in the house with wifi dead spots. if you encounter this then get wifi plug repeaters/bridges
there about £20.00 for a pair of decent single band sets

Welcome to high speed internet.

It wasn't acceptable anymore to live in a pretty big city in a developed country and have internet speeds as if I was living in a cave in the Alps. I might rejoice,however there are areas in the country where they can't even have DSL. (Totalling more than 500K households!) So some use internet by satellite,others Wimax,others they don't have internet at all.

ISPs are somewhat accelerating the deployment of fiber and high speed networks,but good luck in deploying it in a large territory like France and in the country's 36K communes where 54% of them have less than 500 inhabitants.

Not very economically viable if you ask me. @Blue Marlin

live with it frenchie.
theres only two major networks,virgin media and bt
virgin media have their own lines and thats it, they have the fastest broadband in the uk.
bt has various branches, one of them owns EEand and has 99% 4g coverage across the uk.
bt openreach is owns the cables and they lease it's lines to sky, talk talk, plus net.

i renewed my home contract with virgin today. (200mbps)
