Post-BJP landslide victory in UP, posters in Bareilly asks Muslims to leave
Dozens of posters have emerged in Jiangla, a village 70 km from Bareilly, which is ordering its Muslim residents to "leave immediately"
New Delhi, March 16: Posts Bharatiya Janata Party landslide victory, Muslims in Uttar Pradesh are allegedly going through exactly what they are suffering in America after Donald Trump held the office.
As per a TOI report, dozens of posters have emerged in Jiangla, a village 70 km from Bareilly, which is ordering its Muslim residents to "leave immediately".
The message written in Hindi reads, "with BJP in power in Uttar Pradesh Hindus of the village would do what US president Trump was doing to Muslims in that country".
The posters have emerged days after BJP won the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections with a historical majority of 325 seats.
The posters gave a deadline of one year to Muslims to leave the place and read, "What Trump is doing in America, we will do in this village because the BJP is now in power."
The posters are signed by "Hindus of the village", under "guardian" is the name of a BJP MP.
Although the report did not have pictures of the posters, it mentioned that they were taken down by police and administration soon after it came to notice.
However, some of these posters are still left at some walls creating panic among the Muslim residents since the posters also threaten them with "dire consequences" if they fail to follow the deadline.
The posters which appeared overnight on Sunday were seen at several places on Monday morning. The residents have no idea about the publishers of these posters as they claimed most of them celebrated Holi till late on Sunday night.
"We slept a little past midnight, and it was only in the morning that we noticed all these posters around the village. We informed police after some residents objected to it," gram pradhan Rewa Ram told TOI.
An FIR against unidentified persons has been lodged and five youths from the village have been picked up for questioning so far. The police force has been deployed in the area where 200 Muslims live together with 2,500 other residents.
52-year-old Muslim resident Rafiq first objected to the racist posters and said, "It was a little past noon on Holi that I found some of the posters, following which I informed the pradhan. We have been living in harmony for generations, and do not know who came up with these posters".
A villager on the condition of anonymity said, "We have never heard of anything like this in the past. Even though the authorities have assured security to us and action against the guilty, we have been exploring all options including the extreme one of leaving the village."
Meanwhile, police along with other authorities are investigating the local small-time printing and photostat businesses, one of whom must be responsible for printing the objectionable posters.
The news has come as a shock as it is coming from Bareilly, which once got famous for Hindu-Muslim harmony when Muslims collected money to bail 15 Hindus from jails at a time when the nation was discussing intolerance.
Hate against non-Americans especially Muslims suddenly took a toll in the US after Donald Trump held the office. Trump recently imposed a ban on seven Muslim nations as well which was later refused by the Supreme Court.
