Iran and Qatar are to start feasibility studies on a major sea tunnel project that connects the two countries beneath the Persian Gulf, says an Iranian deputy transportation minister.
Iran’s ports authority chief executive Ali Akbar Safaei said on Sunday that the undersea tunnel is one of four major transportation projects that is planned to be discussed and agreed during an imminent visit by Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi to Qatar.
“This project is considered a huge transformation for Qatar and the Islamic Republic of Iran as it links the Persian Gulf to the north and to the south and creates an expanded connectivity between West Asian countries and the Caspian Sea all the way to the Mediterranean,” Safaei was quoted as saying by the official IRNA news agency.
He said the tunnel will link Iran’s Port of Dayyer in the southern province of Bushehr to Qatar, adding that it will include rail and road infrastructure.

Iran and Qatar share world's biggest gas field (South Pars/North dome) and as such will make a lot of sense to have direct transport corridor between them also..in addition Iran is now a big source of fresh foods exports for Qatar..so transport costs will be minimized.

.
honestly if it was between Iran and Oman it would have made more sense financially but well between Iran and Qatar make more sense politically

.
14 agreement signed..trying to see if the feasibility study of the tunnel is included. If this gets a go ahead it will be one of the world's biggest infrastructure projects..200+ kilometer under sea tunnel. Channel between England and France is only 50 km.

not going to happen.

There is a parasitic entity called the "united states of america" that will prevent it. The US bullied pakistan out of a simple gas pipeline with Iran..

such a massive project, 1000x times more challenging, and far more expensive would be vetoed by the US before a single shovel hits the dirt.

One day in the future, when Iran succesfully expels these parasitic entities from our region, should the people of the region be free to trade, and develop their economies, without asking permission from some disgusting american politician in washington.

Feasibility part can go ahead now but implantation will be hinged upon US and Iran can have some level of peace...good project for both..will connect Qatar to Europe for their trade...and will bind Iran to security of Qatar besides just a shared gas field.

This deal would have to be done outside the USD if it wants any chance to succeed. I'm not even sure if the Euro would be safe enough with the way things are trending.

Sir, bring Turkey into your calculation.

USA is a problem but not that much. Qatar is a symbol for Arab nations, you don't need anyone's Protection when dealing with Iran. And Iran is more than happy for regional coop.

USA and Israel are on the verge of getting expelled/collapse respectively. It won't take long for China to have economic presence in this region. A good replacement @Beast

Lol, i kind of know what you mean about US interfering, buuuut, there is a post from a few posts above yours that also explains US's position :

They will most likely make some sort of oil or/and gas barter deal, they both have energy, they can use that.

I think it’s beautiful that water is connecting the sand people. Water is life.

We all know most of Qatar gas is exported in liquid form using specialized LNG ships ....very expensive if the route is short ..so for short distances such as regional countries it makes sense for Qatar to export her gas (they have a lot of available gas to export since their domestic consumption is low)..They will use Iran to export their Gas to Europe or closeby customers..

The graph here (sorry no english version) shows although Iran produces more gas than Qatar the Gas in Iran is mostly consumed locally (yellow) and very little available for export (blue)..Qatar in the other hand has a lot of surplus gas for export and here comes another benefit for them to connect to Iran..Tomorrow all big GAS producers are in DOHA gathering to discuss future of Gas in this planet..

Agree with your statement.

In fact, Qatar is a very obedient servant of US. Far more obedient than UAE and Saudi.

It will not be long, US comes into this picture and ruin this deal. I doubt Qatar will reject US interference compare to UAE reject US request for cooperation with Huawei.
