The missionaries were mainly Irish Catholics like in the rest of India. So the converts were Catholics as well - mostly Hindus of various classes converted as it was more acceptable in Hindu society. What denominations within Catholicism I have no idea.

Calling out hindus for the sake of insinuation doesn't mean muslims were anyhow not susceptible. I admit I don't know the full history of Indian sub-continent but this is what I can see in my observation. Correct me if I'm wrong.

While I agree the british set up jamindari but correct me if I'm wrong that there were also muslim jamindars. Don't tell me the vast fertile plains of today's pakistani panjub were not run by hindus. And the reason bangla fell to british was because of divide between muslim ruling family, is it not?

british used hindus as well as muslims as pawns as long as they were greedful. moreover unlike muslims, hindus had no centralised religious movement against british e.g. khilafat andolon and others. the same reason muslim mughals were able to rule over "hindustan" for so long.

So no hindus were not mindless slaves in the sense that they were completely devoid of independence, but rather acceptable towards the new rulers be it mughals or british as long as the gold kept flowing to their treasuries.

They are the oldest branch. Catholics more like the Irish Catholics are recent.
