Pope likely to visit Bangladesh next year

'Almost sure, will visit India and Bangladesh next year'

Pope Francis will visit Portugal next year and is “almost sure” to visit India and Bangladesh.

Still to be determined is where in Africa he’ll visit and whether Colombia’s peace accord is “certain, certain, certain” enough to enable a papal visit, reports Indian Express.

Francis outlined his 2017 travel plans while flying home from Azerbaijan Sunday. Complicating his travel schedule is that next year is already full of appointments with visiting bishops whose 2016 visits were put off due to Francis’ Holy Year of Mercy, which ends in November.

But Francis confirmed that as of now, he planned a May 13 trip to the famed Marian shrine at Fatima in Portugal.

India and Bangladesh were planned as well and an Africa trip was under study. The destination depends on weather conditions, time of year and regional political and conflict situations, he said.

Hopefully the Mullahs won't be out to kill him. Their constant bleating on about the 'kuffar' is tiresome

That begs the question: are Bangladeshi christians catholic or protestants? Since we were a british colony, protestants?

Most of the Christians in Bangladesh has to be Catholics. In my college there were many Christians and as far as I know most of them were Catholics.

Britishers were not here to spread Christianity. At least it was not a govt policy, though I have read there were many Missionaries, too. I think, most of the conversion to Christianity was after 1971 war.

Pope is welcome as anyone.... however on a personal note seems strange he should come here ..... not many Catholics ..... but whatever

There are around 300,000 Catholics in Bangladesh - so, they are a very insignificant minority. But, the visit of the Pope isn't THAT strange, after all Pope John Paul II also visited way back in 1986. Back then Catholics numbered around 170,000.

Well they and germany/prussia/austro-hungary whatever did break out from catholicism hence rome and pope's influence and english regency were mostly protestants.

Wow. Didn't know that. Almost doubled population. Seems like the missionaries mostly targeted hindu and indigenous minorities for conversion. Although conspiracy theorists will say : "ট্যাকা দিয়া ভাড়া করসে"।

Welcome Pope. Might as well try some Nanna'r biriyani and chomchom before you leave.
