Pompeo to Germany: Use Huawei and lose access to our data

.
BERLIN (Reuters) - The United States raised the pressure on Western allies in a war of attrition over next-generation networks on Friday, saying countries that allow China’s Huawei to build their telecoms infrastructure could be cut off from crucial intelligence data.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo issued the warning after meeting Foreign Minister Heiko Maas of Germany, which has so far stood with Britain and France in declining calls to ban the state-owned manufacturer from the 5G networks now being built.

In the latest sign of escalating trans-Atlantic tensions over trade and security, Pompeo, on the first leg of a five-day European tour, said that while countries would take a “sovereign decision” on which equipment to use, that decision would have consequences.

“(There is) a risk we will have to change our behaviour in light of the fact that we can’t permit data on private citizens or data on national security to go across networks that we don’t have confidence (in),” he told a news conference.

Pompeo later met Chancellor Angela Merkel for brief talks before flying on to Switzerland, describing Germany as “a great, important partner and ally of the United States.”

Merkel had herself just flown back from the United States the night before after delivering a speech to graduating Harvard students in which she exhorted them to “tear down walls of ignorance” and to stand for truth over lies - words widely interpreted as veiled criticism of U.S. President Donald Trump.

“The U.S. is and remains our most important partner outside Europe,” Merkel told reporters ahead of the meeting. “We have many issues to discuss, since the world is not at rest,” she added, mentioning the challenge of preventing Iran acquiring nuclear weapons and hindering Iran’s “aggressive actions”.

Pompeo urged close ally Britain this month not to use Huawei’s technology to build new 5G networks because of concerns it could be a vehicle for Chinese spying.

The United States is at odds with its German allies on a host of issues, from trade to military spending and nuclear non-proliferation.

Pompeo’s visit had been scheduled earlier this month, but was called off at the last minute as tensions rose over Iran, on whose nuclear program Berlin and Washington differ.

A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman, responding to similar comments on Huawei made by U.S. Vice President Mike Pence in Canada on Thursday, said the United States had yet to prove that Huawei’s products presented a security risk.

“We hope that the United States can stop these mistaken actions which are not at all commensurate with their status and position as a big country,” said spokesman Geng Shuang.

Pompeo also urged Germany to follow Britain in proscribing Lebanon’s Iran-backed Hezbollah group and boost military spending.

Mr Pompeo, you were threatening China, its OK.
But what did you say its Germany now? You don't know anything about Germans and Germany. If you provoked them, than, they will make you taste the dust.

Never quoted it would spy employees... I SAID THEY SPY TELECOM OPERATIONS...

stop claim things I never said..

https://www.t-online.de/nachrichten...onen-gegen-deutsche-unternehmen-moeglich.html

here are the claimed concerns between USA and Germany exactly in the same order as I quoted them...

so you are the one claiming Blödsinn

sanctions against german companys because of north strem II not because of Huawei..

turn on the light that you see something in your Dämmerung

Excuse me, I have quoted from the very post you posted and was nice enough to translate it for all of us. How about you post the exact German quote that claims "Huawei spies Telecom operation" coming from T-Mobile?

Even your second link does not say in any way that the T-Mobile accuses Hauwei to "spy on telecom operation". It was only that fat pompous Pompeo who made that claim.

But on the other hand, what can one expect of the rectum maggots in Berlin such as Maas-männchen but to placate to US wishes?

.
China.
The side of Freedom.
Should have spent 5 seconds more to better phrase your bitter hate of China.

Sidenote... the German Telecom ordered their employees not to use Huawei phones for work... their a security leaks that Huawei spy Telekom operations...

Maybe you should stop claiming things they never said and falsely frame the false accussations from the U.S. regime or yourself, against Huawei, as statements made by the German provider.

Du erzählst Bödsinn!

Im Sinne des Investitionsschutzes means, it's about investment protection of T-Mobile in the US and not about Huawei spying on T-Mobile employees.
It just says „because of investment protection“. It doesn’t say „in the US“. You slur two things unrelated together.

Oh **** off, bloddy idiot. What investment has to be protected, if T-Mobile was not heavily invested in the US market?

BTW, Vietnam is technologically much more advanced than Germany. You guys have your own G5 nerwork without one patent registered in the 3GPP.

:omghaha:

And he clearly said "means", not "it says" or "it translates to". Keep down the strawmanning.
Just because PR statements by corporations are very diplomatic in what they say and they obviously want to avoid angering the U.S. which is all openly threatening their overseas assets, does not mean it's not related. What else is "investment" supposed to refer to in this context, that even takes so much precedence over the U.S. attack on free trade with Huawei as far as their tentacles reach that it does not even need to be spelled out? We all know its obviously their U.S. assets. Don't play dumb.

Yet somehow at the same time you seem not bothered at all about the first post inserting blame on "Huawei spying on telecom operations" while phrasing it like a citation of a statement by the German provider from the article he posted.

first, you slur two unrelated things together to make a false statement. Mod should give you a warning.

second, it’s understandable that Telekom recommends her employees not to purchase Huawei phone for business purposes. Will you buy a microwave if it stops working in a month? Investitionsschutz.

third, Vietnam develops and deploys 5g. Why laughing? I think Germany should cooperate with Vietnam to develop 5g equipment. See Bmw and Vinfast. Why rely on a company that is led by a former PLA man?

LOL, your poor understanding of German is not my fault. :omghaha:

Next you will start teaching me German like that other idiotic Vietnamese writing broken German and claim it's colloquial German.

I'm laughing at your stupidity. You don't have one bloody 5G patent. Now stop lying! :enjoy:

You have once again no fucking clue what you are even talking about here, do you?

This is the domestic German version of a pan-European and internationally used legal term concerning state to state investments and related issues as part of international trade, either used as an umbrella term for the entire subject or label for legal agreements and laws implementing related frameworks, guarantees, obligations, rights etc. Your selfserving idea that it could even refer to "not wasting money on potentially bricked phones" is completely absurd and just utterly ignorant.

Seriously, go back filling up cup noodle shelves.

btw there are more serious concerns between USA and Germany than Huawei...and Germany dont care about USA and stupido Trump...

the biggest US problem is Nord Stream II the pipline between Russia and west Europe
next biggest is Iran... Germany do not share US thoughts about Iran politic and dont follow the USA
Germany dont care about US politic
Germany´s 5G plans are open to everyone... they set high safty and security standarts and at the moment Huawai is not able to gurantee them..for that reason it is most unlikely that Huawei get a foot into the door of German 5G instalation

Sidenote... the German Telecom ordered their employees not to use Huawei phones for work... their a security leaks that Huawei spy Telekom operations... that does not stop Telekom to sell Huawei to private customers..

Nord Stream II is not an issue. You have to purchase natural gas. You get it from Russia. Who in USA cares if the pipeline goes through Poland or Baltic Sea ?

Laugh as you like. Can you or anyone list some Huawei patents here so we can take a look what such patents do?

not an issue? USA directly say they punish german companys for that reason...
Why...
USA want Germany to import US gas ... simple as it is because it is big money...
