I think so. Russia mainland spans 7500+ km coast to coast from Black sea to Bering strait, biggest mainland in the world. Russia don't need Crimea. Rather than hate, it should be love. If I were Putin I deport all 2.5 million Russian citizens from Crimea to Russian mainland by force and give Crimea back to Ukraine. What would you do about Crimea if you are Putin?

Crimea is historically Russia. When Soviet Union dissolved, Russia is just pragmatic to allow it remain with Ukraine since it believe Ukraine will not be hostile to Russia.

Actually, Crimea is historically Tatars, which is traditionally belong to the turkic empire (Which is the other side of Black Seas) which is in itself a Ottoman mandate (Or states) during mid 1400s

Russia only occupied (or conquered) Crimea since 1783.

I am sure the EU, US and India are going to deliver Crimea back to Ukraine...

Well, to be more correct - there was Russian principality (Tmutaracan principality) in the Eastern Crimea in 10-12 ct. Just on the Byzantium Empire borders.

And grand prince Vladimir the Great (baptizer of Rus) was baptized in the Byzantine city of Chersonesus (near Sevastopol) in 987. Crimea was Christian in those times.

Well, technically speaking, that's Rus' Khaganate location is disputed even today, some believe the Khagan Capital are in Eastern Crimea and some believe its actually lies across Taman Peninsula.

Australia historically only ever belong to 2 kingdoms, Torres strait islander (From South Asia) Prehistorically, and British Empire since 1700s.

As for how far one have to go back, you go back to the first surviving civilization. In this case, Turkic people still exist as a civilization and that is the earliest civilization one belong to.

Yeah but most people who live on Crimea are Russians...and why should they leave?? Then half the world will have to leave...

The city of Tmutarakan was in the Taman Peninsula, but the principality controled both coasts of the Kerch Strait.

Yeah but most people who live on Crimea are Russians...

Well, most people lives in the US speak English and of British Descent, but does that mean United States of America did not have any Spanish root? And not historically belong to Spain?

Again, that is actually in dispute

Of course many Mexican and Americans have Spanish roots but does this mean California and Mexico and Texas ought to be governed by Madrid???
So Crimea belonged to Eastern Roman Empire, then Rus Empire, then this Turkic empire and then Ottoman, then Imperial Russia, then USSR and then Ukraine and now Russian Federation.
But what really matters is the people living on Crimea. If most of the population were Turkic Tatars, then they would never have voted to join Russia in my opinion. But most of them are Russians....and that is a fact. We can debate various empires ruling over this land but you know that the majority of Crimeans are Russians...

Yup. Now is what matters.

The city of Kerch fell under Russian control in 10 ct. and became Korchev. It was tenure of Tmutarakan prince. It was the main sea port of the whole Rus.
