What is ironic in the whole affair is that the gov’t. as well as the demonstrators are “Aashiqan e Rasool”. There is no evidence of any insult to our holy Prophet. Let us look at the demonstrator’s demands:

· Rreversal of the changes in the clause revolving around the finality of Prophethood that was enacted by the Parliament

· Punishment of all those involved in the change including the Law Minister Zaid Hamid

· The “anti-Islamic” and “anti-Pakistan” acts of the Ahmadis and their various sects be curtailed and perpetrators be given prescribed punishments

· Ministers who are “Ahmadi sympathizers” like Rana Sanaullah should be dismissed

· The removal of the prohibition on loudspeakers inside mosques in Pakistan

Total number of Ahmadis in Pakistan is less than one million. It therefore mazes me to think that more than 150-million Sunnis feel threatened by such a small community. PML-N is a right of centre party and includes many extremist sympathisers. Now the same party is accused of being sympathetic to Qadianis!!!

Additionally, no one has been accused of insulting our holy Prophet (PBUH). Now Islamabad High Court has also ordered the Chief Commissioner to clear ‘‘‘dharna’’’ in 3 days. As a Pakistani living abroad, I can only hope & pray for the sake of Pakistan that better sense prevails and the matter is resolved without further bloodshed.

However religious lobby, except for a handful of scholars such as Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Hazarvi & Maulana Shabbir Ahmed Usmani, were dead against the Quaid & the Muslim league. It is clear that ordinary Pakistanis are obsessed with religion and the malicious religious lobby exploits it to full. I am therefore afraid the real target of this movement is the 70 year old agenda of the religious lobby, which is to destroy Pakistan from within.
