Police constable shows judge “how grenade works” inside courtroom, three injured

Sir with due respect I would like to differ with you on that, you can't empty manufactured grenade only you can remove detonator and above all only grenade's detonator can't produce enough explosion to injure three. Subject germane type is most probably HE-36 type.

Can't say for sure since I haven't seen what type it was, I'm just parroting the statement of the SP.

He is lying Sir actually they forget to remove the detonator from the grenade which is widely use practice to defuse the grenades. The most widely produce grenade or u can say avaible in Pakistan is HE-36 type either local, Chinese or Russian. I know this because I myself served in the armed forces for short time.

Depending on which type (I only ever worked with M67 and M26), you usually don't remove the detonator to make safe a grenade, as detonator are usually embedded inside the main charge, you need to cut open the grenade to get to the detonator.

We usually make safe a grenade by removing the fuse or hammer itself. You can simply unscrew the handle to get to the fuse, again, it may not work with all other grenade, but this is how to make safe a M67 and M26 grenade.

But all in all, they should have use an inert grenade for demonstration........The one that you practice throwing with,

Sir I mention about HE-36 hammers bolt, fuse / Detonator all embedded, you just grip the handle remove the upper main screw on head and pull of full mechanism. that's how HE-36 works.

well, not sure about how HE-36 work, did HE-36 have a straight fuse or a bend "U" shape fuse? If it is a straight fuse then I guess you can remove the detonator (Or the whole assembly) with it, you cannot do it with the "U" fused grenade tho, that's my point.

Straight connected with main screw which not only close the grenade opening but also hold the lever mech.

Well, if that fuse assembly is straight, then you can take out the whole assembly lol. As I said, I don't know how HE-36 works.

KARACHI (Staff Report) – A hand grenade exploded inside courtroom in Karachi’s Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) after a judge asked a police constable if he knew how grenades worked. The constable, instead of explaining his expertise in weapons and grenade handling to the judge, opted to demonstrate practically by promptly pulling out the pin from the grenade.

This resulted in a loud explosion, injuring three including the constable and a court clerk.

The blast took place while hearing of a case was underway in courtroom-III. Two policemen and a court clerk were among injured and taken to a nearby hospital for first aid. Court’s proceeding was briefly suspended as a result.

According to media reports, the grenade in question was a locally developed bomb which was brought to the courtroom by Investigation Officer Abid Ali as evidence. The bomb was, reportedly, not defused before production in the court.

The police and paramilitary forces in the vicinity immediately surrounded the area after the explosion fearing a terrorist attack and the security forces were put on high alert.

It is safe to say that now the whole court knows how grenades work, including the curious judge.

According to authorities, the constable who apparently knows how grenades work will be punished severely after he recovers from his injuries.
