POF-EYE Corner Shot weapon cleared for production.

It took them six months to design and manufacture the first prototype but took 6 years to build a final prototype? Isn't it somewhat clumsy R&D ?

During IDEAS 2008, this news item came about it

6 years ago, there were plans about attaching digital screen behind bullet proof jacket of person using Corner eye so other people in his squad could monitor the situation and to attach wifi sensor or antenna in it so live feed could be sent back to control room. If final prototype is without such design changes, they just wasted 6 years for unknown reasons
Put a camera, lcd and a gun together is not that big of a deal...
But to make something work up to a standard (military standards in this case) and getting it to work reliably is totally another game. I'm not sure about its latest specs but even if it come with corner shot capability, it will help our soldiers a lot during operations against terrorists and that's what we need.

Most people do not realize the amount of small arms and ammunition POF exports. This is one area we are really good at and with POF opening up to collaboration with Chinese and Turkish weapon manufacturers, the future looks promising. There is a news of new assault rifle circulating for some time now and if we do go for higher number, then there surely will be another JV for in-house production. I hope we get involved with Brazilians as well, Taurus have been producing some amazing small arms and i hope we can produce some of those as well, specially for the export and local market. There is huge potential in non-military weapon systems that we are and can produce at POF.

I reckon the new POF rifle will ultimately be a license built copy of whatever the Army chooses as part of its next standard rifle program.

Even the Turkish MPT-76 and UAE CAR-816 are based on the AR-15 platform to some extent, so there aren't many uniquely new designs coming out outside of the most experienced designers - e.g. FN Herstal, CZ, Beretta, etc.

I think the Army's final choice and POF's next big project will land on one of the modular rifle designs, and that is a good thing considering they are new platforms with plenty of life for additional development. Just consider how FN tailored the SCAR to serve as a battle rifle, sniper support rifle, personal defence weapon, and even civilian market rifle.

I just hope we also ink a major deal with an optics maker; it'd be amazing if POF produces a modern rifle as well as sights, it'd be an end-to-end provider (rifle, sights, ammo).

For optics we need Turkey here. Their is one Turkish company which make world class optics and also ASELSAN

The sights deal for local manufacturing, IF it happens is most likely to go to someone else rather then POF i think. Also there are a few private firms in the play. I would love nothing more then getting them involved in such a project!! :)

If the Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Interior order lots of sights and optics, they can ask the manufacturer to invest in the Pakistani private sector as a means of getting those sights made. In other words, commercial offsets: $1bn is spent on the sights, $350mn comes back into Pakistan as much needed private sector investment, the selling firm tries recouping lost profits by tapping into low cost sights from their factories in Pakistan.

Would be huge, but very uncharacteristic of our procurements method (sadly). I think if we decide to make sights locally, it'd be a standard ToT package with production from POF.

But man, how amazing would it be if we get offset investments into sights, PGBs, LGBs, light armoured vehicles, MRAP, etc.

Do 85 million people in Pak possess guns?

Many households, have them. Though they might rarely or never use them, but they always have atleast one somewhere in the house storage, that is guaranteed.
