ISLAMABAD, Oct 19 (APP): Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF) Chairman Lt Gen Omer Mehmood Hayat Wednesday said the organization witnessed around 325 per cent increase in its export earnings during the fiscal year 2015-16.

“The export earnings of POF, Wah has remarkably improved from 22.03 million dollars in the fiscal year 2013-2014 to 93.68 million dollars in the fiscal year 2015-2016,” he said while briefing Federal Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanveer Hussain on performance and achievements of the POF in the last fiscal year.

He said around Rs 25,099.401 million was injected in the budget to meet the target demands of the armed forces.

Among others, the Secretary Defence Production and other high officials attended the briefing held in the Ministry of Defence, Rawalpindi, said a press release.

Highlighting achievements of POF, the chairman said technicians and engineers of the organization were working hard and had achieved the targets set for the 2015-16 despite limited budget.

He praised the professional competence and commitment exhibited by the POF personnel, who made remarkable achievements in cost saving by executing development projects indigenously.

The minister expressed satisfaction over the performance of POF, Wah and assured his all-out support in replacement of old and obsolete machinery.

The figures aint that big but the percentage increase is way high. ALHUMDULILLAH.

.
They set themselves a target of 100 million. Good to know they are around that mark. With other related products comming in the picture POF may well go beyond 100 mil, well beyond it in comming year.
Do keep in mind the ongoing rifle replacement and that deal have a potential to increase the exports even further once we start making them. Also the Italians upgrading POF. In short, future looks promising. :)

That is a great news.
Sir do you know about POF financial circle? Where does the profit earned by POF goes, do they reinvest that into their projects or it just goes into national exchequer!

. .
Cool, do they export more then Ordinance factories in India?

. . .
POF should open shops in different cities of Pakistan since we Pakistani like small arms and POF quality weapons would be in wish list of thousands of people who are buying cheap copies in the name of originals.

.
pof export is like peanut in camel's mouth
but still good job must take it to billions

.
POF is state run entity, they need to privatize this and bring in outside talent and expertise, so far they have been very unimpressive !!! not a good job.

We can jump with joy and congratulate ourselves to no end, but let us face it. $100-million is the cost of a single modern fighter.

Considering size of the international arms trade, $100-million is no more than peanuts. But how can it be any more when we are selling copies of the arms designed and originated in another country? G-3 is German, Mashaak trainer is Swedish and JF-17 originated and designed largely by the Chengdu Aircraft Corporation in China. Belgium is a tiny country but Fabrique Nationale d’Herstal with annual export volume of about 1-billion Euros is the largest small arms exporter in the whole of Europe. No one wants second best when it comes to fighting a war. In the international arms bazaar; you have to prove that you provide the most bang for the buck.

Main reason for Pakistan lacking indigenous defence industry is the lack of research & development. We have KRL that is producing some defence related products like Baktar Shikan & ANZA and the National Defence Complex where Babur was developed and is also manufacturing missiles but nearly all originated in other countries.

For Pakistan defence industry to take-off and be competitive with the best of the best; we need a combined pool of scientists & engineers working together producing innovative defence related items. Since the size of our requirements is small and we have to induct the product in Pakistan Army before any other country will buy it; a gov’t funded organization on the lines of Indian DRDO is needed.

We already have the successful example of Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission. Need of the day is to establish an entity similar to the Indian DRDO. However, given state of the Gov’t finances, this is unlikely to happen in the foreseeable future.
