PNS Alamgir, Kuwait Navy to hold joint exercise

Islamabad—Pakistani Naval Ship (PNS), Alamgir will hold joint exercises with Kuwait Navy during a good-will visit to Kuwait from July 2 to 6.

Pakistan Naval Shipsperiodically undertake goodwill visits to the State of Kuwait which provide excellent opportunity to Pakistan Navy officials to interact with their counterparts at brotherly country Kuwait.

It also helps in further improving the strong relations between the two countries. The ship is named after Emperor Aurangzeb Alamgir who was the sixth Muslim ruler of Great Mughal Empire.

PNS ALAMGIR was commissioned on Aug 31, 2010 at Mayport Florida USA.

The ship has a tonnage of 4100 tons with overall length of 138.1 M. It is multi mission capable ship, fitted with potent weapon and sensor systems.

The ship is capable of carrying two ASW Origin Helicopters. The mission of the ship is to maintain the standards of professionalism and excellence which are a hallmark of Pakistan Navy.

The Commanding Officer of the ship, Captain Naveed Ashraf during the stay in Kuwait will pay courtesy calls on senior officers of Kuwait Navy. A reception will be held on-board which will be attended by the senior civil and military officials of Kuwait, diplomats, notables and members of the Pakistani community.

Where did you get the impression that this ship came with a SH-60? This would require a separate order with all necessary infrastructure and training. + why is this ship conducting a ex before arriving home? Have the crew ad enough time to train on yet?

You clearly aren't familiar with how define procurements work. Especially US defence procurements which require Senate say so and I don't know with current US-PAK relations this would be an automatic yes.

I'm sorry but the two deals are VERY different, and once again you are showing your ignorance on defence procurement policy. You got the above helos from China who ripped them off from France (Dauphin in their service). But the SH-60 is a US product and they are VERY strict with who they sell what to and would be reluctant to sell advanced SH-60R, especially at a time when IN is seriously considering buying them. And especially when Pakistan arms procurement is a particular sore point in the US Senate/Congress the very people who would have to sign off on any such deal- which in current climate seems unlikely.

While the ship was being re-furbished---the crew was going through full fledged hands on training by the american crew----plus all the time they had in the seas---since their departure---would have been well spent in honing their skills. Please remember, the crew that was sent over was already an experienced crew.

She either stopped by Pakistan late May and quickly went out again to go to work (and participating in international exercises is part of her work) or there was a change of plan and she went from Oman through to the Gulf and Kuwait. She may be cruising along with a Turkish taskforce that is visiting that area, having visited Turkey herself on the way over from US. As we know, Turkey operates 8 similar ships.

If not with SH-60 then she'll quite nicely with either Sea King or Z-9 or - eventually - some UAV.

There was some mention of some barely used Kaman SH-2 Super Seaspirits for Pakistan. A request was sent out but than nothing happened. -- any news/update? These helos were bought by Australia and than returned after some dispute with Kaman. Linked with Orion and the OHP this combo can turn in to a formidable ASW system -- an area where ,even today, PN is in need of upgrade.

Could be interesting. Egypt used Seasprite with it's Perry's. But, given problems the Aussie had and given PN is getting Z-9, I would try avoid adding another type to the inventory (with all due logistical hassles) and focus on more Z-9.

i think we will see the old helocopters from the type-21 ans some new UAV being operated from thi s platform. buying a new helicopter for this one ship wont be advisable
