PM’s adviser asks Senate body to ‘shut down’ PIA

And why is that ... when india china and alot of other countries can run airline in gov sector then why cant Pakistan ??? Just because people like you keep on using popular arguments ...

We are talking about PIA which is a Pakistani nationalised carrier, not an Indian or Chinese airline. Neither the Chinese carrier nor the Indian airline were smuggling heroine in their plane. Again, discuss PIA and don't indulge in diversions and deflections. And what I'm suggesting isn't unheard of. Air France and KLM merged while holding a minority stake in Alitalia. SAS (Scandinavian Airlines) is a JV between Denmark, Norway and Sweden. These aren't developing countries however they are responding to the free market.

What arguments do you have in your defense ... as per your say all gov institutions should be privatised then why now provatised POF as well ??? Why not Privatised Kamra ?

Of course, privatise PAC and POF. Lockheed Martin isn't nationalised. You can openly trade Lockheed Martin on NYSE and S&P. What makes PAC and POF so special? There is no reason why these two shouldn't operate in a free market.

Ok and China became world second largest economy ... nationalization and privatisation whatever you do issue is of governance ... issue is murder of merit and not the economic model ... each economic model has its oros and cons but ultimately ita about how you run a particular system ... indian railway established one of the best metro system of the world in dehli governed by gov of india ... so if privatisation is the issue then why open economy of eurpoean countries like greece italy and spain are in trouble whereas gov operated instittues of india and china are flourishing ... its about governance at the top and not the model ...

Greece, Italy and Spain are in trouble because of their bloated public sector which spends money that they don't have which is exactly what Pakistan is doing with PIA and PSM.

.
The parliament should set up an independent commission to evaluate each department of PIA, (Pilots, Maintenance, Air crew, ground crew, customer service, ect). Each pilot should have a fit for duty evaluation under the supervision of the commission. Those who have been involved in criminal activity (smuggling, money laundering, sexual harassment) should be fired and prosecuted. Those who have history of negligence should be fined and fired.

Keep those who have strong performance records. Next declare the Airlines bankrupt and create a new company under a different but similar name with the assets OR sell shares of the new company as a publicly traded entity OR sell the assets to other airlines in the private sector with guaranteed service contracts. IF the parliament decides to maintain governmental ownership then the commission must do yearly reviews of the airline with a new board of directors at the helm. Any person found guilty of nepotism must be fired on the spot by the commission. The old PIA will have the debt restructured and maintain the outstanding debt risk (debtors would need to be paid back but they would likely get 20-30 cents on the dollar). The restructuring should resemble something like what GM and Chrysler underwent during the recession with the US government stepped in to buy them and restructure the companies. The section in bold is preferred as a way to maintain a national airline while maintaining efficiency and effectiveness as a privately held company.

Now thats the ideal way it should be ... privatised or not privatised issue is the culture and the people ... that needs to be addressed ... however just one addition the committe to be made by patliment should get assistance from professional organizayion like Mckinze, PwC or Deloitte ...
