LAHORE:

Malik Ishaq enjoyed Punjab government’s financial assistance ever since the Sharif’s came to power in 2008, officials on condition of anonymity told The Express Tribune.

The accused terror kingpin belonging to banned Sunni outfit Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ), nominated in 44 cases in which 70 people were killed, allegedly received a monthly stipend, during imprisonment, from the Punjab government.

Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah confirmed the disbursement but clarified that it was given to Ishaq’s family, not him, as per orders of the court. However, upon further investigation, it was revealed that nor was there any such disbursements during former president Musharraf’s tenure, nor was there any court order pertaining to the matter.

Meanwhile, one of the key witnesses in Ishaq’s court case, Fida Hussain Ghalvi, is receiving police protection to avoid any untoward incidents, highlighting concerns arising from Intelligence and Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) after the release of Malik Ishaq.

Ghalvi while talking to The Express Tribune confirmed that on the direction of Multan City Police Officer Amir Zulifqar, Multan and Vehari police have provided two policemen to him for security protection. Furthemore, Ghalvi has also relocated from his native town out of fear for his own life. He had been currently residing in two different locations, moving back and forth for security purposes.

However, leaving Ghalvi out, two other key witnesses and one complainant have not been provided any security as of yet and fear for their lives. The men identified as Khadim, Sikandar and Abdul Ghafour (complainant) are the only people to have survived the court cases which have taken 20 lives, including eight people who were murdered purely for being associated with the case.

“I can be attacked at any time and I do not know if I will be alive tomorrow or not, as you know almost everyone who was a witness or a relative has been slain,’ said Sikandar, who now operating a cloth store in Dokota on Multan Road.

“When Ishaq was in jail eight people were killed mercilessly by the same group,” said Khadim Hussain, who is now a farmer in Dokota.

The complainant (Abdul Ghafour) of the first case against Ishaq in which 12 people were massacred during a majlis, said he has been awaiting justice for 14 years but has completely lost hope since the release of Ishaq.

Express Tribune deletes another PML-N exposé News Item

On 27th July – an article appeared on the back page of the newspaper titled Web presence: Punjab govt footing bill for PML-N social media revamp after it remained online for the entire day around 10pm that evening the article was suddenly deleted, and no explanation given as to why, the web editors of the Express Tribune chose to delete this post
Almost a month back on June 6th, Express Tribune had published an article titled PML-N’s – ‘Like’ my Facebook page News Item, after a few hours the web editors deleted the online edition without any reason. It seems there is a definite attempt by Express to be influenced by PML and its team of hired media houses to ensure that no bad publicity appears on its papers.
The focus of the article is on the hiring of the social media team, but what has not been exposed is the upsurge of all the TV ads & all the Newspaper adverts that have started populating the airwaves ALL are being funded by YOUR TAX MONEY positioned as Govt ads only to promote Sharif [PML] & Zardari [PPP]. One does wonder BOTH have made enough money in ALL their tenures combined that they could easily “invest” in their future turn of power – but their old corrupt habits continue. They use your money to reposition themselves as saviors of Pakistan for re-election.
An exposé of their activities was revealed at the Pakistan Social Media Gate blog which has a video and itemized screen captures.
For the sake of online posterity I hearby again reproduce the contents of the deleted article, so that the digital footprint does not disappear into oblivion
Web presence: Punjab govt footing bill for PML-N social media revamp
By Abdul Manan Published: July 27, 2012
According to some party officials, team was hired by Punjab govt but utilised solely for PML-N objectives.
The Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) has hired two advertisement agencies for publicising and promoting its activities, party sources told The Express Tribune.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the party’s social media politics team after recommendations by the PML-N senior leadership and the Punjab government’s information technology-related officials, they added. The meeting, chaired by party president Nawaz Sharif, took place at his Raiwind residence.
Punjab Board of Information Technology (PBIT) Chairman Umar Saif gave a presentation to the participants, discussing the PML-N’s current presence on social media and the appeal of the party’s manifesto for the youth. PML-N constituted its team of social media experts to counter the web presence of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM). According to some party officials, however, the team was hired by the Punjab government but has been utilised solely for PML-N objectives.
A well placed source in the Punjab Board of Investment and Trade said that two floors of the board’s offices at Arfa Karim Tower were currently occupied by the PML-N’s social media teams, who had been working day and night to accomplish the party’s social media goals. He confirmed that the workers were hired by the Punjab government under PBIT, along with various other departments like the Punjab Sports Board.
The Punjab government set up a five-member committee last year to spruce up its image with a social media campaign. This team however, is apparently being utilised to promote PML-N’s social media presence.

Express Tribune deletes another PML-N exposé News Item | Teeth Maestro

Third Tribune Article against PML Deleted “PML-N, ASWJ reach consensus”

Its ironic that we are reporting the third incident where a printed artcile from Express Tribune website may have been subjected to online censorship [First: PML-N’s – ‘Like’ my Facebook page News Item [DELETED] & Second: Express Tribune deletes another PML-N exposé News Item] an article that seemingly may have gone against PML-N has been deleted from the Express Tribune website – The original article was published on the 2nd page of 30th Septembers Express Tribune newspaper, was posted on the tribune.com.pk website but after people started sharing it on the social media it was deleted from the website in its entirely.
This is not the first time such an incident has happened, but infact the third time that I have noticed a similar tactic to actually notice that tribune has been quick to entirely remove a report that may possibly hurt the public perception of Pakistan Muslim League
I here with share the entire text of the article which should have been located at http://tribune.com.pk/story/444637/election-season-pml-n-aswj-reach-consensus/
Election season: PML-N, ASWJ reach consensus
30th September 2012
LAHORE: A covert understanding between the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) and Ahle Sunnat wal Jamaat (ASWJ) is said to have reached a consensus on seat adjustments in the Punjab and National Assembly in the upcoming general elections, well placed sources told The Express Tribune.
According to the sources, PML-N’s Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan met with ASWJ chief Maulana Mohammad Ahmed Ludhianvi to discuss the seat adjustments, particularly in South Punjab. ASWJ, which formerly operated as the Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan, has a strong vote bank in many constituencies of Punjab, particularly in South Punjab, which forced the PML-N’s think tank to strike a deal with it over seat adjustments.
According to the deal, the PML-N will give the go-ahead to ASWJ to contest the election for three NA seats with the PML-N’s support, while in exchange the ASWJ will withdraw its candidates from contesting around 12 NA seats across Punjab whose votes often play a vital role in helping candidates win.
The sources also said that the head of the banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) Malik Ishaq, who recently joined the ASWJ, could possibly be one of the candidates fielded by the ASWJ to contest the election for any NA seat that could be vacated in South Punjab. However they added that if Malik Ishaq was not allowed to contest the election, then his son Malik Usman will be fielded as a candidate for either the provincial assembly or the NA.
Expected seat adjustments: Sources said the PML-N will not field its candidate from the NA-89 constituency of Jhang as Ludhyanvi will contest that seat, which is currently occupied by PML-Q’s Sheikh Waqar Akram. It will not field its candidate for the NA-184 constituency which will be contested by ASWJ’s Rao Javeed. Currently PPP’s Khadija Aamir Yar Malik occupies the seat.
In exchange, in Bahawalpur division, ASWJ will support PML-N’s Mian Imtiaz from the NA-196 constituency which is occupied by Javed Iqbal Warraich of the PPP. ASWJ will not field a candidate for the NA-186 constituency, which will be contested by PML-N’s Riaz Hussain Pirzada, who recently switched allegiances from the PML-Q. ASWJ will also try its best to convince Maulana Moeen Wattoo to let MNA Mian Khadim Hussain contest the NA-188 constituency.
Sources said that if PPP MNA Jamshed Dasti decides to contest the NA-177 constituency, then ASWJ might field Malik Ishaq or his son Malik Usman for the seat. ASWJ will support PML-N’s candidate for the NA-156 constituency. ASWJ will also support PML-N candidates for all seats of Faisalabad, Sheikhupura, Gujranawala, Sheikhupura divisions and some areas of Sargodha.
Speaking to The Express Tribune, Ludhyanvi confirmed the talks between PNL-N and ASWJ and said the recent support and cooperation between the two would continue. “Both parties could not do without each other and history shows that our voters are willing to see us united,” he added. Malik Usman told The Express Tribune the decision on which constituencies the ASWJ will contest will be taken by the party itself. PML-N’s Central Information Secretary Mushahidullah Khan said that although the party was in talks with religious parties, he could not share details of the talks with ASWJ as its discussions were still ongoing.
