ISLAMABAD: Lawmakers demand a comprehensive framework to regulate activities of foreign security agencies in Pakistan including DynCorp, on Tuesday.

The PML-N legislatures moved a bill in the National Assembly demanding regulatory framework for the security agencies.

The bill demanded formulation of the regulatory mechanism at the interior ministry level. It said all personnel of foreign security firms must wear uniforms and should not enjoy diplomatic immunity.

Mover of the bill, Khurram Dastagir, claimed that Blackwater was involved in some illegal acts in Pakistan. He also expressed concern over the activities of other agencies like DynCorp and XE.

Interior Minister Rehman Malik informed the house that laws were available to deal with such agencies.

He revealed that out of around 400 Americans residing in Islamabad, some 300 have the diplomatic status.

He did not disclose the status of rest of the Americans, amid reports of the presence of US Marines in Islamabad.

Presently, the US Embassy is in possession of 189 houses in the federal capital.

An excellent demand by PML-N. Rehman Malik replied that there are laws to deal with such issues.

Well now it is the responsibility of PML-N and other opposition MNAs to review the existing laws and advise the GoP on what changes and amendments need to be made so that the exisiting laws become useful in our current and future scenarios.

MNAs need to debate those laws and discuss openly so that people know what we have and what we need.

Nothing gives me more pleasure than the hope that our law makers will finally start making laws.

.
i dont think law is the issue. only issue is implementation. but recently we can see improvement in that as well. US is crying foul.

^^^Indeed!

besides Musharaf's role and stuff...
At least Musharaf, Shaukat Aziz and Shahbaz Sharif looks more educated than many MNA's and MPA's from face...

I doubt lawmakers can make law...if they could than they wouldn't be on present seats...

law >> kind laws...

As long as PPP is there we can't say that these restrictions will be put in place fully and their activities will be controlled. See Rehman Malik's answers on brecorder website and it looks he don't want to give clearcut reply and trying to reduce the importance of this bill as a slave of USA.

Interior ministry is already in the pocket of US and indian embassies.
Interior ministry officials are heavily bribed and are forced to legalise for them all what is illegal in Pakistan.
For example driving cars with fake plates, carrying prohibited arms, and carrying arms to diplomatic enclave and fedral capital.

recently in a press appearance US ambassador has denied any presence of blackwater and its subsidries in Pakistan, which went un challenged by from political circles incl. the govt. it self.

I think our MNAs can make laws and thanks to Gen. Musharraf we now have a graduate assembly. Problem lies in the fact that people of Pakistan don't demand or pressurize these MNAs to work.

There will be no change unless we demand change. People need to stand up.

.
The graduate assembly is long gone. That rule has been abolished.

. .
this should be implemented on all local or foreign security agencies ..

Didn't Zardari got elected after this rule was abolished ??

...the funny thing is that i am sure there are people whose purity (read impurity) even education cannot manage to change...

On a serious note, the current security situation in our country demands many new laws to be made.
Laws about swift court proceedings regarding terrorists and militants nabbed by the agencies, laws governing how foreigners are to be treated if they are abusing their diplomatic immunity, laws about people promoting militancy and hate in the country...
Law against our politicians who are using police for serving their families...is it not amazing that PML-N government in Punjab is also so lax that most of the elite force members are security details for the ministers and other higher ups...in a city of 10 million plus and against a threat like TTP the elite force is supposed to be heavily used for the protection of people and not as exclusive bodyguards of the politicians...

Many things have been happening which need to be controlled.
Calling interior ministry after being caught at a check point is clearly illegal for someone claiming diplomatic immunity.
We have captured 10,000 TTP which cannot be handled by the police...Army is being taxed unnecessarily...we need to take care of these murderers and punish their ringleaders so as to strike fear into the hearts of those who have shed innocent blood.

Rule applies to NA only but I also think that Zaradri has a bachelor from either IBM in Karachi or from a business school in UK. Don't quote me on this a I have yet to confirm.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, March 21 (UPI) -- There appears to be some mystery as to where the co-chairman of the Pakistan People's Party went to school in London.

British officials are having trouble finding the school Asif Ali Zardari is said to have received his graduation or equivalent qualification. The PPP says it was the London School of Economics and Business. But, no one seems to know for sure where that is, Dawn, a Pakistani newspaper, reports.

.
apparently he holds a diploma from some UK university which accordin to him is equivalent to a graduate degree. in real world (not zardari's world) its not equivalent to a graduate degree
