PML-N Charge Sheet Against Musharraf

PANIC By Musharraf's Popularity .... I'm afraid ''Sad'' Times yet to come for (N) Nasur League.

One can hardly take an issue with the charge sheet in regards to its contents against General Musharraf, released by the PML-N on the eve of the 11th anniversary of a military coup by the former dictator. Nevertheless, there is nothing in the charge sheet that is not already known to the people, the judiciary and other stakeholders in power politics. The PML-N wants Musharraf brought back through Interpol and tried for his crimes, but has not condescended to identify who will bell the cat. This omission is not an oversight or an inadvertent deletion from the statement of indictment but a well-considered restraint in view of the sensitivities involved and political expediencies that have bearing on the political fortunes of the party. The initiative can safely be construed as a ritualistic exercise typical to the celebrations of anniversaries, rather than something substantive or earnestly desired to be implemented. Musharraf indeed unconstitutionally toppled PML-n Govt, It is therefore logical that the move to have the former dictator prosecuted for his crimes should have come from PML-N. It has been more than two and a half years since democracy was restored in the country and nearly two years since the dictator abdicated power. If the PML-N was sincere in having the dictator prosecuted for his indiscretions and unconstitutional shenanigans, why has it not filed a formal petition in the court or moved a resolution earlier in parliament? Why is it not organising the long march it is so fond of to force those who matter to bring the dictator to justice? The truth is, it never will. The party has too many dirty skeletons in its closet to muster the courage of taking the bull by the horns. It is aware that its long marches can succeed with the blessing of the generals and not against them.
