Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a terrorist organization fighting the state of Pakistan, has jumped the election fray and threatened the people against attending the election rallies of Awami National Party (ANP), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM). It has clearly warned the masses that election rallies of these parties would be next target of TTP. This also means that people should attend the rallies of PML (N), JUI (F) and JI and should feel safe casting their votes for these parties.
Now this is a very strange situation. The parties which ruled Pakistan for the last five years may not make it to the Parliament for the next tenure due to their gross mismanagement, misrule and plunder but threatening people against attending their rallies means that terrorists have thrown their weight behind the right-wing parties in whom they had placed their trust and who were spearheading negotiation with TTP. These parties had even avoided using the word terrorism while referring to security situation and had dubbed the terrorist threat as a mere law and order issue.
By implication, the terrorists are clearly coercing the voters to vote for Nawaz Sharif and Fazalur Rehman, their long-standing allies in Pakistan. This will deny level-playing field to other parties. In this situation when some parties have violent support of terrorists, will a fair and free elections in Pakistan be possible?
