Hi I would like to ask some questions about the PM's security. I appreciate there are similar topics but none addressing the points I would like to know.*

1) what are the arrangements in regards to the PM's convoy (cavalcade) when moving about as I have seen new X5 BMWs in some pics, are these only reserved for formal (special) occasions or are the used everyday and have completly replaced the older silver Safaris used before? + is there any plans to replace the old BMW 7 series with a newer veichle?
2) I have seen pics with a new Mercedes Sprinter van in the PM's convoy can anyon tell me the purpose of this van and is It a new addition to the convoy?
3) can anyone tell the nature of the convoy the PM travels in, are there counter assault teams onbooard, ambulances, firetrucks, close protection BGs?**
4) what equipment does the SPG use in terms of ballistic protection and communication, to they wear BPJ under there suits, do they have protection for the protected like a Kevlar blanket or umbrella, do they have ear pieces like US SS to communicate between on another? Do they have tasers and/or collapsable batons (Asps)?*
5) The SPG look quite proffesional and like no other Indian force, where did they recieve there traing? Abroad, if so where?
6) When on foriegn trips do the SPG carry weapons on them or are they not allowed? Also do the SPG carry out advanced sweeps of locations the PM will be visiting themselves or do they leave that to local police?
7) Do the SPG have counter sniper units like the US SS? And arenthe units we have previously seen pics of wearing black BPJ and khacki trousers still used, and if so what is ther function?*
*
As many pics relating to above Qs would be MUCH appreciated (especially relating to the PM's convoy)

Thank you in advance for all replys.*

I think the SPG are one of the best protection agencies in the world.

Hi Abingdonboy,
Suggest you write to the SPGl; only they can give you complete and authentic information that you desire.
About the vehicles in use there is a full fleet of them configured to various roles and they consist of (heavily modified) BMWs, Mercedes cars, Mercedes vans, Safaris and even the ubiquitous Ambassadors; each one outfitted appropriately to its task.

I agree. That would be like me asking the Secret Service here in the US what arrangements they make.

I can almost hear it now - " Come on down to the station boy, we have a few questions we have to ask of you also.....!"

Best left alone. In any country, that is classified - meaning "need to know" basis only.

The on subject of VIP protection. Here Hu's posse...

PM's 7 series, SPG armoured X5's, SPG (probably CAT) Mercedes Sprinter + 1 Tata Safari cammand + control/ jammer veichle.

Would love to know sooooo much more about the SPG!!! they remain so secretive and elusive though with very few pics, even fewer vids of these AWESOME men- doing 1 of the best jobs in the country- protection the PM of India and his family. Hope Nat Geo or someone (maybe even Rocky and Mayur) do an in-depth look in to this shadow unit ( just like has been done about USS)- it would be INCREDIBLE!!!! more pics + vids please!!!!!

Any extra info links?

Read it somewhere. Let me search.

Here it is...

With terrorists striking Delhi and some major cities, the country's premier R&D institution, DRDO, is hard selling three of its anti-explosive devices to the Home Ministry to tackle the threat.

"We are in discussions with the Home Ministry to sell our three devices -- a remotely operated bomb disposal vehicle (ROV), 'Sujav' Electronic Support Measure and 'Safari' Electronic Counter Measure -- to agencies dealing with explosive-related cases," a top DRDO scientist told PTI here today.

First among the two products were 'Sujav', a compact communication electronic warfare suit, which is basically a frequency jamming equipment.

'Sujav' has an in-built ability for direction finding, search and monitoring capabilities covering 30 to 1,000 Mega Hertz and jamming within 30 to 500 MHz frequency range. Another product is the 'Safari' device for jamming Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) basically to ensure protection of convoys moving in troubled areas.

"What DRDO is offering to the Home Ministry is a combination of both 'Sujav' and 'Safari' to ensure both electronic support measure and electronic counter measure. That way we would be able to ensure safety of vital installations across the country, security of market places and also VVIPs," the scientists added.

Here is the link from GoI website.... I think they are using both Safari and Sujav.... and both have different versions....

Brief Technical Profile

The convoy jammer mounted on TATA SAFARI vehicle offers protection to VVIPs and military convoys from the threat of radio controlled improvised explosive devices (RCIED). The system is modular in design and employs efficient RCIED muting techniques which facilitate system operation in selected threat bands. The system is designed to counter the prevailing RCIED threats and is upgradable.
Applications

Can be deployed for protection of military convoys from the threat of radio controlled improvised explosive devices.
Scale of Validation

Commercialized and being used by Security Forces.

Great pic!! SPG look as good/ if not better than any other protection unit in the world, a very professional force. I agree with you there is too little info and exposure on these guys. Yeah would love to see a Nat Geo doc on them, although I think it is unlikely as they probobly prefer to remain in the background and unknown.

I agree that the Merc Sprinter probably has a CAT inside these guys:

The SPG is quietly adding to it's arsenal- 7 series then Safari jammers, then X5s, FN 2000, P 90 etc not like MHA or MoD who broadcast any purchases for years without achieving anything.

BTW I think that pic is a still from this vid, you can see the convoy moving for a while with the protection cover once demounted- it's very impressive:
