PM Nawaz inaugurates Pak-China Friendship Tunnels over Attabad Lake

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday inaugurated the Pakistan-China Friendship Tunnels, which have been constructed by China over the Attabad Lake in Gilgit-Baltistan's Hunza valley.

The seven kilometre long five tunnels are part of the 24km long portion of the Karakorum Highway (KKH) which was damaged in 2010 due to land sliding at Attabad.


Two bridges and 78 small bridges have also been constructed on the rebuilt section of the highway, Radio Pakistan reported.

The tunnels have been constructed by the National Highway Authority (NHA) in collaboration with the China Road and Bridge Corporation to restore part of the road which had submerged under the Attabad Lake.

The project has been completed in a span of three years and two months.


NHA officials briefed the prime minister on the details of the project and status of upgradation of other parts of KKH.

Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Governor GB Barjees Tahir, Chief Minister GB Hafeezur Rehman and China's Ambassador to Pakistan Sun Weidong were also present on the occasion.

Earlier, the premier was received at Gilgit Airport by chief minister GB. The chief minister briefed the prime minister about progress of other developmental projects in the area and performance of GB government.

This is not last project, hope to continue more projects. Alot of unfinished thousands projects, we must finish all of them.

so Did Karachi Operation Or Zarb-e-Azb start in Zardari Era????? Who's providing them Money?? It's federal Government... Where was Rangers in Zardari Era 2007-2013? JF-17 the Project was Launched in 1995 Pak and China Signed the MoU for joint design and development of a new fighter, and over the next few years worked out the project details.... did that line Anywhere mentioned Airforce of Pakistan Signed MoU?

In June 1999, the contract to jointly develop and produce the Chengdu FC-1/Super 7 was signed. The project was to be a 50:50 partnership; the air forces of both countries would be committed to ordering the fighter... Again Nawaz Gov Era so that is why he takes Credit of JF-17


Please Do tell me whose Credit is it that Nawaz is snatching here? and why no one come on Media and talk about that ??

@Topic we need an alternate land route to China in future just in case, where will that. second route go from? The wakhan corridor in Afghanistan is the best choice but that requires an understanding with the Afghan govt. .The other route is extension of the road towards north of khaplu that meets G219 in China. The topic begs a new thread we need alternate trade routes to sustain the cpec traffic moving. @Muhammad Omar please do tell us what brainstorming pmln has done on this issue. Thanks.

We need road links to China a train between Iran turkey and Pakistan isn't going to solve that.

hahah I was expecting something better. Of course an alternate route will minimize the chances of a complete choke. Chances of two routes getting choked together (for any x y z) reason are way minimal. And when one is earning trillions its imperative to spend a few billions on back ups . I don't think they are idiots to have multiple road networks in the south and central section of cpec. And it doesn't matter how many tunnels there are, as long as they have a single route, a vulnerability will be there. im glad pmln is not overseeing this project, kindly think objectively on stuff instead of defending someone's nalaiki. One of the most common reasons I have seen for blockages on kkh are accidents esp. In winters , since pmln has recently won in GB what have they done to address this issue ?

Just like Imran had nothing to do with that dam he inaugurated a while back. This is how these things roll sadly in our society.

The thing is the democratic system is still in its infancy in our country and thus we see such grand inaugurations all the time because leaders rush to secure their vote bank.

In another 10 years or so when we've gone through two more cycles of elections and new govts we will see less and less of such event as people won't be so easily swayed by such public stunts.

We just have to patiently go through this process.

well that is your point of view well i don't that alternate is gonna build anytime soon as it's gonna cost Billions and who's gonna pay for that 800+ km road that to in mountains the worst conditions in winters and will gonna take years and years to build

and they made 3 routes eastern western and central because of the connectivity of each province and cities with each other...

who ever seeing this project is not dumb either he could have also thought of giving an alternative route but guess what he didn't .... so is he also NALAIK in the prospect too??
