Ahmedabad, India: Articles gifted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be put on auction in Surat from Wednesday, and included in the list is the monogrammed pinstripe suit that spelt out his name. The proceeds of the auction will be used for the Clean Ganga campaign, said Rajkot District Magistrate Rajendra Kumar.

Mr Modi wore the suit during US President Barack Obama's three-day visit to India last month, inviting criticism from Opposition parties. Neither PM Modi, nor his office had responded to the criticism.

Speaking about the auction process, Mr Kumar said 361 items will be on display for three days.

"The articles are in brass, bronze, silver and gold. These also include cloth items gifted to the Prime Minister," Mr Kumar said.

During his stint as the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Mr Modi used to put out gifts received for auction. The proceeds were used to further the education of girls.

The pinstriped suit, which spelt his full name -- Narendra Damodardas Modi - was tailored by Jade Blue in Ahmedabad, the clothing chain that handles the Prime Minister's wardrobe and has copyrighted the 'Modi Brand' of kurtas

Modi's 10 lakh worth suit gifted by a diamond merchant to be auctioned on Feb 20

The much touted suit which Prime Minister Narendra Modi wore during US President Barack Obama’s visit to India will be auctioned on February 20 in Surat.

In January, PM Modi wore a monogrammed pinstriped suit with his name - Narendra Damodardas Modi. The name was embroidered with gold thread.

Along with the suit, 445 more items that Modi received as gifts will be auctioned. The auction of the suit will go on for three days.

As per reports the money from the auction will be given to the Namaami Gange Trust Fund, a trust established to keep Ganga.

This is not for the first time, earlier as chief minister of Gujarat, Modi had held similar charity auctions of gifts. Then the money received was donated to Kanya Kelavani Yojna for girl child education.

Earlier, there were reports that the fabric of the suit was reportedly made in London’s popular company titled Holland & Sherry Ltd and it worth Rs 10 lakh.

However, now the suspense over the much hyped suit has ended as a diamond merchant Ramesh Virani has revealed that he gifted the suit to Modi. Virani gifted the suit to Modi during his son’s marriage. Virani shares cordial relationship with Modi and his family. Mr Virani also denied the estimated worth of the suit, saying that it is being over-hyped.

Sold for 1 Crore. Modi as a CM to gujarat used to give all his auctioned gift money for the girld child movement called Beti Bachao. He had donated atleast 25 crore rs till 2010 as the CM of Gujarat for Beti Bachao. I believe he shall donate this amount also for the upliftment of and saving of girls.
