PM Imran nominates Abdul Qayum Niazi as PTI's choice for AJK PM

Prime Minister Imran Khan nominated on Wednesday newly elected member of the Legislative Assembly Abdul Qayyum Niazi as the prime minister for Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
The news of Niazi’s nomination was revealed by the Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Hussain Chaudhry on his official Twitter account.

“After a long consultation and review of suggestions, the Prime Minister of Pakistan and Chairman PTI Imran Khan has nominated the newly elected MLA Mr Abdul Qayyum Niazi for the post of Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir,” he wrote.

The minister also termed Abdul Qayyum as "a dynamic and genuine political activist, dedicated to his workers".

Abdul Qayyum Niazi was previously part of the All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference (AJKMC) before leaving it to join the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) two years ago. He has been elected from LA-18 Poonch-1 constituency of AJK.

He was also elected to the assembly from the platform of the Muslim Conference in 2006 and has also served as the Minister of Food.

The premier interviewed a total of five candidates for the post of prime minister of AJK, including Sardar Tanveer Ilyas, Barrister Sultan Mahmood, Khawaja Farooq, Azhar Sadiq and Abdul Qayyum Niazi.

At first, Abdul Qayyum was not in the running for this post, and was only included at the eleventh hour.

PM Imran Khan had interviewed the candidates and asked them questions about the environment, tourism, economy, national and international affairs, border issues and future strategy.

A day earlier, PTI candidate Anwarul Haq and Riaz Gujjar took their oaths for the duties of speaker and deputy speaker, respectively, in the AJK Legislative Assembly.

Speaker Shah Ghulam Qadir administered them oaths along with the other elected members. Among those who took the oath were six women.

Sardar Atiq Ahmad Khan of the Muslim Conference and Javed Iqbal Badhanivi of the Pakistan Peoples Party could not take the oath.

Pretty surprised as I expected Barrister Sultan Mehmood to get the position. I don't know anything about this new guy. Lets hope he's not a new Buzdar. Maybe he was not chosen because of the corruption cases against his son?

آزاد کشمیر کے نامزد وزیر اعظم قیوم نیازی کے آباو اجداد کا تعلق مقبوضہ کشمیر سے ہے۔ اُن کا خاندان 1947 میں مقبوضہ کشمیر سے ہجرت کر کے LOC کے اس طرف آیا تھا۔لائن آف کنٹرول کے قریب پونچھ سیکٹر میں ان کا گاؤں اور انتخابی حلقہ ھے ۔

عبدالقیوم خان نیازی کا تعلق وزیراعظم عمران خان کے قبیلے سے نہیں ہے اور نہ ہی وہ پختون ہیں۔ عبدالقیوم کا تعلق مغل قبیلے کی دُلی شاخ سے ہے اور انہوں نے اپنے نام کے ساتھ نیازی کا لاحقہ ایسے ہی لگا رکھا ہے۔ وہ سدھن کشمیری نسل سے تعلق رکھتے ہیں۔
عبدالقیوم نیازی نے 3 سال قبل تحریک انصاف میں شمولیت اختیار کی تھی، اس سے قبل وہ مسلم کانفرنس میں تھے ۔وہ آزاد جموں کشمیر کے حلقہ ایل اے 18 پونچھ 1سے کامیاب ہوئے ہیں۔ عبدالقیوم نیازی کے اپنے نام کیساتھ لاحقہ لگانے کی وجہ انکا کالم نگار، مصنف ہونا بتایا جارہا ہے۔

When the news of his nomination for the PM's post went on TV, the question was raised that Abdul Qayyum Niazi is really a Pathan and belongs to the Niazi tribe? Some even said that Imran Khan nominated Abdul Qayyum Niazi because he belonged to the same tribe.
Saleem Safi, one of the main critics of Prime Minister Imran Khan, claimed that Imran Khan had tried to defranchise Kashmiris by imposing Niazi on them.

In his Twitter message, Saleem Safi said that in the Tsunami government, the Minister of Kashmir Committee Pakhtun, Chief Secretary Pakhtun, IG Punjab Pakhtun and now Prime Minister from Imran Kahn's Pakhtun tribe.
Saleem Safi further wrote that according to the American agenda, Kashmiris are being deliberately hated. Kashmiris have the right to rule Kashmir. As Pakhtuns, I condemn the attitude of the government.


But the question is whether Abdul Qayyum Niazi really belongs to Pakhtun and Niazi tribe and they have nothing to do with Kashmir? The question also arises as to how a non-Kashmiri contested the MLA election while the MLA must be a citizen of Azad Kashmir or belong to Occupied Kashmir to contest the election.

Azad Kashmir's nominee for Prime Minister Qayyum Niazi's ancestors are from Occupied Kashmir. His family migrated from occupied Kashmir to this side of LOC in 1947. He has a village and constituency in Poonch sector near the Line of Control.

According to journalist Fayyaz Raja, Abdul Qayyum Niazi's village Dara Sher Khan is on the Line of Control but some part of this village is also in occupied Kashmir.

Abdul Qayyum Khan Niazi does not belong to the tribe of Prime Minister Imran Khan nor is he a Pakhtun. Abdul Qayyum belongs to the Duli branch of the Mughal tribe and he has added the suffix Niazi to his name. He belongs to the Sadhan Kashmiri race.

Abdul Qayyum Niazi joined PTI 3 years ago, before that he was in the Muslim Conference. He has won from LA 18 Poonch 1 constituency of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Abdul Qayyum Niazi's suffix with his name is said to be because of him being a columnist, author.

Then by that logic, Kayanis, Janjuas, etc aren't native either. Then the majority of AJK aren't "native". The PM's family have probably been living in Kashmir since the 17-18th centuries.

Kindly read the article i shared. He is a local. Kindly come out of party talking points. Also he won on AJK poonch sector seat LA 18 and not the muhajir AJK seat.

Barrister Sultan is a seasoned AJK politician, respected Worldwide across the board. Many overseas Pakistanis are disappointed by this decision, especially those who are from Mirpur, Bhimber and Kotli. Nevertheless, it's the Perogative of PTI who they nominate.

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday, after detailed deliberations, named Sardar Abdul Qayyum Niazi as the next prime minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

For the purpose of nominating the next AJK premier, PM Imran Khan interviewed Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry, Sardar Tanveer Ilyas and Khwaja Farooq, among others.

But Geo News has learnt that it was not the matter of a simple interview that was to be the deciding factor in the nomination of the chosen candidate.

Sources told Geo News that the prime minister was "advised" that the numbers 13 and 18 will prove "beneficial" and "fortuitous" for PTI.

Along with this, he was told that if a name starting with the Urdu letter “ع” is chosen, then not only will the AJK government complete its tenure, PTI's position in Kashmir will be cemented.

The sources said that after learning of this, PM Imran Khan had Ansar Abdali flown in from LA-13 and Sardar Abdul Qayyum Niazi transported from LA-18, via a helicopter reserved for the prime minister's use. They were brought to Islamabad from Muzaffarabad.

The sources further said that the prime minister had a discussion about the Kashmir policy and matters pertaining to the governance of Kashmir, among other issues.

After a detailed discussion with party members, he named Niazi as the next prime minister.

About Sardar Abdul Qayyum Niazi
Sardar Abdul Qayyum Niazi is the 13th prime minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. He was born in a town located on the Line of Control, named Darra Sher Khan, in tehsil Abbaspur of district Poonch. He graduated from the Azad Kashmir University.

He began his political career in 1982, when he became the district councillor of Poonch. His family had a long-standing association with the All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference (AJKMC) party.

Niazi first became a member of the AJK Legislative Assembly in 2006 when he was elected on an AJKMC ticket.

From 2006-2011 he held the portfolios of minister for finance, prisons, and others.

He ran for elections in the 2011 and 2016 polls. In this year's polls, he obtained 24,500 votes and won the confidence of several clans.

Niazi is famous for always holding his constituents dear, considering their problems to be his own, whether it is a death in the family or an illness. He is always the first to arrive to visit the affected family.

His elder brother, Sardar Ghulam Mustafa, was elected to the legislative assembly twice and served as a minister both times.

A younger brother, Sardar Habib Zia, is considered a skilful lawyer of the Supreme Court of AJK.

Niazi also has a third brother, who resides in the US, and a son, who is a councillor in the UK.
