PM Imran discusses major proposals to revive PIA

PIA's losses had many reasons

#1 Free Tickets for Government officials

#2 Free Tickets for Politicians and their families

#3 Free Tickets for Service men/women

#4 Fake accounts moving profits out of country thru back channel

#5 Operation of flights over extended routes vs choosing short travel routes

#6 No strategy to deal with country who give discount on Jet fuel

#7 Open sky policy , cancer to Pakistan's Aviation

#8 Delay in acquiring planes on lease

#9 Not charging extra baggage funds for bags

#10 Not popularizing Pakistan's Duty Free Zones

#11 Decaying equipment , and demoralization of employees

.
Open sky policy need to be scrapped , only national Airline should be allowed to pick up passengers inside Pakistan

Foreign carriers must have a limit on them
Besides providing this boost of eliminating open skies policy(temporarily), PIA staff needs trimming. Many past governments filled it unnecessarily with their "chamchas" who are not qualified for the job. Not just the "extras" serving presently...but there is also a large chunk of the past "extras" who have retired and are getting full retirement benefits.

They should also consider privatizing it to an extent...like a 51/49 split with government holding the majority stake.

You do realize is 6am here right? Cat got ur brain?

Simple, other airlines are making money because they are run my a competent team of individuals. Not because they sold assets off. Fix the problem at hand dont cut corners

Like i said, no one can fix it. Only way to fix it is by letting private company take over.
one of the Telecom company fixed their business by consolidated 25 markets into 7 markets and laid of 15,000 people in last 3 years. They had no choice but to stay competitive, and for that they had to make some tough decisions.
If PIA wants to stay competitive they will have to make tough decisions.
Increase the use of technology and automate 25% to 50% of the processes. Reduce 25% to 50% of employees, if needed hire contractors without benefits..

.
Its other way around

Encourage more competition so that PIA can either stop making loss or bankrupt for once and for all

If other airlines can make profit PIA should also be able to do the same or shut its operations

Hi,

That is one strange analogy---why would PIA compete with foreign airlines---. There should be lesser competition---.

I pray that you are not an economist---.

PIA needs to reduce 50% of its work force---.

U just provided the reasons it shouldn't be sold off. Why can only a private company do that? The government can do it too

.
Id say close the pia make a new one from same fleet and staff

All PIA fleet is old, can't use those old planes for new airline. buy few and lease few planes.
New Government/Private venture,
U just provided the reasons it shouldn't be sold off. Why can only a private company do that? The government can do it too

let me give you an example, I own a mustang car worth $10,000 but it has some major mechanical and electrical problems. I have try to fix these issues in last 10 years but they are keep costing me more and more, Engine fixed, transmission fixed, AC fixed. I have already spend $15,000 on maintenance and repair in last 10 years.
Now i have to make a decision, should i spend more money on old mustang to fix it or should i take a $5,000 loss and sell it. I can buy a used Toyota Camry for $10,000 which is more reliable, has better performance and resell value. what would i do in this scenario?
I will take the loss and buy a better car which will have less maintenance cost, better petrol consumption, and less headache.

Government will have very hard time dealing with PIA union crap and politicians.
Incompetent management will never allow performance based employees evaluation since they haven't done shitz in last 10 years.

politicians will pander to the employees for votes. government run managers are under the control of politicians.
private management does not have to.

i thought such issues were settled when the berlin wall fell in 1989. may be not

#3 Free Tickets for Service men/women

And therefore it should always have the government's support to carry on, no matter what. :D

.
Should that not be our concern then honey?

it should be your concern

As someone looking from outside the dichotomy is obvious. on one hand you know what needs to be done to rectify your economy. on other hand you have no stomach to do it

The modern taxi is never a bad business.

How is Air India doing?

i never flown on Air India. But I see private airlines in India having a fleet of 500+ Boeing/Airbus jetliners.

at the end of the day airlines industry is a capital intensive taxi business. i like your analogy
