PM fears bid to grab state power

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged all the democratic, pro-liberation and non-communal forces to remain united to foil any possible attempt for grabbing state power by extra-constitutional means in future.

"Time has come to unite the nation to ensure that people get the benefit of independence," she said in parliament yesterday.

The premier was speaking in an unscheduled discussion on the historic March 7 that lasted for over one and a half hours with participation of 14 ruling alliance lawmakers.

"Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on this day in 1971 called on the people to free the country. We recall the historic day with profound respect," said Speaker Abdul Hamid.

Ruling alliance lawmakers highlighted the significance of the address, and termed it one of the best speeches in the world by a political leader.

Hasina, also the daughter of Sheikh Mujib, recalled some precious moments before Bangabandhu headed for the then Racecourse Maidan on March 7 from his Dhanmondi-32 house.

She also recalled her mother's role in advising Bangabandhu on many critical occasions.

"Many people surrounding you [Bangabandhu] will advise you in many ways. But you will speak what your mind says," Hasina quoted her mother Sheikh Fazilatunnessa as telling Bangabandhu before he left for the address.

It was not a written speech and Bangabandhu said what his mind wanted to say, she added.

During the discussion, a number of lawmakers demanded that the government include the March 7 address in the text book so the future generation can know about its significance.

AL lawmakers Amir Hossain Amu, Suranjit Sengupta, Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, Workers Party chief Rashed Khan Menon, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal chief Hasanul Haq Inu and Jatiya Party Secretary General ABM Ruhul Amin Hawlader also participated in the discussion.

She rules the swinging minds of Bengal, so anything can happen. If she continues to move towards India, nothing is impossible where the Army is totally built on anti-indian psychology.

One BD air force officer said to me, they rarely gets permission to visit India.

any reason ? as far as i know a BD army officer who was on visit to India was probed by Indian agencies as he had once spoke in support of Pakistan in a private gathering of people from India, BD and Pakistan.
