I agree Ali, the focus SHOULD be economy.

As for textile, the news of units being closed is exaggerated really. I am in textile business and i know a lot of units making crazy money too. The few units that did closed down (few as opposed to many that is usually mentioned in news) were mainly due to their own follies and wrong policies or cheating!!

Werent there many that shifted to BD coz it had a more friendly business atmosphere esp when it came to lack of electricity?

Its their incompetency, failure to invest into the business they are earning from and then crying when the productivity decrease, CHEATING - Which is responsible for two three mills closing down!

The Textile Sector over all is doing just fine. The international market is a bit slow and yes we have lost some share in fine qualities to India but overall we are doing just fine. Also just a few small steps from government and a serious effort from the industrialists and we will be RUNNING ahead in a year or two max. The situation is not that bad

Nah!! Very few went there but all of them are back. There are certain things that we are really really good at and we are keeping that business!

I hope there is an increase in value added products!

Pakistan sells too much of our raw products out for few gains...and then buys finished goods made from the same raw products at a higher cost! When we can invest a bit, make value added products using the same raw products and sell it for higher price!

Not anymore. We used to sell yarn to Bangladesh and China and Raw fabric to Turkey, even dyed/printed fabric to South Africa. Now it is most dyed printed fabric or made up (stitched retail packed items).

Sure took Pakistan a long time to figure out yarn and raw material doesnt reel in much! ESP when you buy back expensive finished products made of the same raw material you exported!

Actually, we were not importing the products that we could have made from this material, we were producing enough for domestic needs and exporting as well. It is just that many industrialists had customers for the raw materials so they were just trading in that. Now this have changed and more and more people are going for finished retail packed products as they pay better and are worth the extra effort and investment. Took some time to figure that out but still, finally we are here.

we already have more than enough houses which have destroyed our agriculture land .Real concern is who will prevent these houses prices from skyrocketing like it occured in past and high rental for these houses are not easy to afford.better to develop flats and appartments as they occupy less land than housing schemes

Actually we were! I had seen Pakistani made curtains and bed sheets in UK! I also know a few industries who imported from Pakistan, made the clothes in Bangladesh and then sold it under their banner and to my surprise SOME of these brands are in Pakistan selling EXACTLY the same thing (chain stores)...meaning say Pakistani wool bought, spun into clothes (from Egypt or BD) and then sold in their chain stores overseas and when you see exactly the same thing in Pakistani racks you tend to feel irk

Pakistanis have this mentality that bahar ki cheez mein quality hai so they even order online (the clothes that were made of Pakistani raw material but sold overseas)....

Now this have changed and more and more people are going for finished retail packed products as they pay better and are worth the extra effort and investment.

Yes I remember when I first joined PDF...I kept screaming about this coz I had seen the horror of finding clothes that were made by Pakistani raw material and sold in POUNDS to Pakistan

AND Overseas Pakistani buying it coz it is branded!

Took some time to figure that out but still, finally we are here.

That would be a big economic boom to construction industry, providing millions of jobs to non-technical labour in addition to construction related industry. They should make sure that every single item used in the construction of these units is manufactured in Pakistan.

Government should form a partnership with reputable construction companies in the private sector (government provides land, private company does the construction). Not a big fan of Malik Riaz, but he should be involved in some manner for the planning/construction part, as he has shown very good planning skills in most of his projects.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday constituted a committee to execute the government's affordable housing scheme.

Under the housing scheme, the government will construct five million low-cost houses.

Chairing a meeting earlier today, Prime Minister Imran directed the committee to submit its initial recommendations within a week. The prime minister emphasised that the private sector should be encouraged and maximum facilitation must be extended to those who would be partnering with the government for the project.

The prime minister noted that the construction of low-cost houses is the foremost priority of the government as it would not only address housing issues in major cities but also promote economic growth and create job opportunities.

"We have to devise a comprehensive mechanism for regulating slums without dislocating poor people and ensuring provision of all civic amenities to those residing in these areas," said Prime Minister Imran.

The committee will be headed by Secretary Housing and Works Dr Imran Zeb Khan to devise a comprehensive and coherent plan of action, in consultation with relevant experts and representatives of concerned departments.

The meeting was attended by Yaqoob Izahar, Najeeb Haroon, Arshad Dad, Secretary Housing and Works Dr Imran Zeb Khan, Secretary Law Justice (R) Abdul Shakoor Paracha, and other senior officers.

In Turkey, Reis Erdo'an has been successful with such a program!!! No wonder nobody can defeat him in the elections!!! Looks like Imran Bey has done his homework quite well!! A great initiative!!!
