The American planes are for short term requirement. The long term need will be addressed by the Russian ones.

Have you seen the status of our armed forces ? Why India is carrying on one of the largest modernization plans ? We don't have anything we have a huge requirements of fighter jets, transport aircrafts, more awacs are also needed, radar coverage is not even their in NE sector, modernisation of airfield and new airfields are desparately required, one of the biggest armed forces and only a couple hundred transport choppers so we also need huge number of transport choppers, attack choppers and LUH are also needed, new SAMs, new trainers and new air defence guns. Dude what else is left ? We need everything and we are getting choosy for the purchase of transport aircrafts ? We have limited budget and a lot to purchase. 12 C130j and 10 C17 is enough for special operations we should now concentrate on others.
Relax man, I know all about it. The news reports about it constantly as if that is a great thing to be proud of. Modi offered a plan. make India self sufficient and in order to narrow the gap we need to invite private players in. The forces had to undergo such an extensive modernization plan b/c of the lack of coordination in upgrading military capabilities for over 2-3 decades over vrious issues. No doubt we should be picky but the USSR equipment even its heyday has been subpar. india had no other choices, let's not kid ourselves. Of course, at the same time USSR has been somewhat of a steadfast ally even thought they have given China more access to tech and TOT than India....FACT
Get 6 AC-130 for special operation forces.....They are terribly punch on our enemy -

when the americans will feel that they have no strategic interests in india...........they will stop providing us equipment.........so russia is a far better ally!!!
Still they will sell it for money
But more should be acquired only if MRTA is not moving ..There is no urgent need to buy off the shelf planes when we can produce the same in house...
Its not compared to B-2 and F-22. You can only use this machine against small or poor countries which do not have proper air defence system or their air-defence system is destroyed or made nonoperational. If India ask for this version they will give us.This is not something the US has/is willing to sell to anyone, not even its closest allies. Just like F-22 and B-2 they aren't going to let anyone else have this kind of firepower.
