Please pray for my father

. . .
My father had a triple bypass heart surgery in June of this year (2016). He is not recovering well. He has the following symptoms.

1) Shortness of breath
2) Cough that won't go away
3) Weight loss ( lost 20 pounds since the surgery)
4) Loss of appetite

Please pray for him as doctors have been unsuccessful so far in diagnosing and treating the symptoms.

May Allah almighty bless your father with health, amen!

Could you please answer following questions.
1. With the change of position is there any change in the intensity of shortness of breath?
2. Is cough assassinated with sputum, if yes then is it blood tinged? Frothy?
3. Does he smoke or used to smoke?

.
These are normal symptoms post heart surgery, no worries.

I know a relative of mine, who had the same symptoms after heart surgery for a while but today is doing fine. Though cannot do physical work that strains the heart.

1. With the change of position there's no intensity of shortness of breath. My dad says he wakes up on an average of 10 times from his sleep due to shortness of breath.
2. Yes he coughs up phlegm but it's not blood tinged.
3. My dad never touched a cigarette in his life.

Thank you for replying! Please don't follow whatever is being advised/discussed here or anywhere on internet, the doctor who's dealing your father knows his/her job. All you can get is information which may not necessarily be relevant to the condition your father is having, so just stick to doctor's management plan. I am sure your father will recover soon, In Sha Allah.

Here's some information you might find helpful to understand the ailment. Considering your father had undergone CABG (coronary artery bypass grafting) June this year, I'm assuming your father had suffered from coronary artery disease aka ischemic heart disease. Given the symptoms, mostly typical, the condition most likely is CHF (congestive heart failure) which per se is a clinical syndrome and is diagnosed mostly on the basis of signs and symptoms -- that said it's bit hard for me to believe what you have said in OP "doctors have been unsuccessful so far in diagnosis". There must be something else which doctors want to rule out.

CHF has classifications I won't go into the details. Shortness of breath (dyspnea) which in your father's case exacerbates during sleep (paroxysmal nocturnal dyspnea) & cough are specific symptoms whereas weight loss is pretty much non-specific. Weight loss and iron deficiency anemia must have alarmed the doc, for very reason a CT scan has been advised.

I am sure ACE inhibitor like Capoten, Vasotec, Zestril etc is part of the treatment plan. Some patients don't tolerate ACE inhibitors & have excessive cough as an adverse effect. In case of intolerance docs may consider ARBs. Since your father is having excessive cough, this can be discussed with doc if your father is on ACEi.

A recent CT scan found blood clots in the lungs. It's a medical condition called Pulmonary Embolism.

The doctor has now prescribed a blood thinner called Eliquis (5 mg).

Fresh Pomegranate juice can do wonders for people. 2 to 3 glasses over the course of a day.
