I wonder if Chinese are inherently arrogant and their belligerence is just a cultural thing which has been going on for centuries or if their assertiveness is the product of their ascendant status on the global stage.
Sometimes I wonder if it is the "new money syndrome" like you see in well to do African Americans and Arbas who sometimes go overboard with their wealth, flaunting it for all to see.
Assertiveness is very relative. China has always claimed what we claimed, it goes back decades to even before the People's Republic.
It's one thing to stay humble and drive a Ford instead of a Ferrari, it's another to give up your ancestral grave because someone else thinks it's closer to their house.
Just because we have money and strength now, does that mean we should give up what's rightfully ours. If we start claiming Tokyo or Mumbai as ours, then yea, that's unnecessary, and assertive. When Myanmar bombed inside Chinese territory, did we immediately respond with force?
People choose to see what they want to see.
For the lack of a better comparison, how did you feel when the world was coming down on you for Pakistan because America was on their side. Same thing is happening to us.
Hahaha, we'll let them practice maybe practice makes perfect, God forbid they try to take Taiwan.
7th fleet and the JSDF might have to intervene.
Doubtful, no nuclear power has ever warred with another, when push comes to shove, are you really so certain that this "crazy, authoritarian, communist" government won't use it.
To use Japanese to illustrate.
It's weird that I have to say this, but I had this conversation before and NO I DON'T WISH FOR THE USE OF WMDs EVER. ONLY A MORON WOULD.
That said, I pose a very sincere question with no intention to offend you - What was the need or point of this exercise? I don't believe China does anything without thinking, Taiwan not in a thousand years can possess any threat to China so what purpose does this exercise serve?
Some jackass CGIed some building on the news, this particular exercises is relatively new, but has been going on for a few years. It uses new blue army concept to mimic "enemy" forces, and uses unscripted combat to simulate real battlefield conditions.
Some guy drew the conclusion that this is against Taiwan, but in reality it's just like any other exercise that the PLA conducts except it's in a far bigger scale that involves multiple military regions.
China won't invade Taiwan, if nothing else, is India going to pick up the tab when we destroy it in an invasion scenario? Too expensive, China wants Taiwan the economic power, not Taiwan the waste land.
Pretty sure a smashed Ferrari is garbage.
