China tests 12,000 km ICBM with multiple warheads

China has conducted the most comprehensive test of a nuclear-capable intercontinental ballistic missile which can hit targets as far as 12,000 kilometres, bringing all of the US under its range.

The People's Liberation Army (PLA) conducted the full test of the missile, DF-41, involving multiple, independently targetable re-entry vehicles on December 13, said the Washington Free Beacon which has earlier accurately reported about Chinese missiles tests.

The missile has an estimated range of 12,000 kilometres and can carry up to 10 warheads, which separates from the rocket during the final stage of its flight and target individual cities, Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post reported.
There is, however, no confirmation from the Chinese military about the test and the number of warheads used.

A successful test would mean China has made a significant advance in its nuclear capabilities with far-reaching consequences for US's balance of power in the Asia-Pacific, the Post report quoted a defence policy expert as saying.

The DF-41 flight test is being viewed by US intelligence agencies as a significant advance for China's strategic nuclear forces and part of a build-up that is likely to affect the strategic balance of forces, it said.

The flight-test marks the first test of multiple warhead capabilities for China, the Beacon quoted US officials as saying.

China's nuclear arsenal is estimated to include around 240 very large warheads. That number is expected to increase sharply as the Chinese deploy new multiple-warhead missiles.

The current deployed US strategic warhead arsenal includes 1,642 warheads.
The Chinese military has previously carried out tests of the DF-41 but those probably involved only a single warhead, according to Professor He Qisong, a defence policy specialist at Shanghai University of Political Science and Law.

"A full-course flight test of the DF-41 means China has made another stride forward in building a great nuclear power. The new achievement will definitely raise concern from the US as it (shows China can)...break through Washington's ballistic missile defence systems in the Asia-Pacific region," the Post reported.

The PLA has never officially confirmed the existence of the new generation warheads but a government environmental monitoring centre in Shaanxi mentioned its development on its website in June, possibly by accident, the Post report said.

Macau-based expert Antony Wong Dong said President Xi Jinping is taking a more confrontational military stance as part of a wider strategy to consolidate allegiance within the military.

"Xi is facing a certain resistance in dealing with the massive corruption problem in the PLA. With challenging international political tension, the army would be forced to listen to him just like during the eras of his predecessors, Mao Zedong and Deng Xiaoping," he said.

Chinese military conducts full test of long-range missile 'which can hit any part of US' | South China Morning Post

China last week launched its most comprehensive test of its latest-generation intercontinental ballistic missile, the DF-41, which can hit anywhere in the US, according to an American media website.

A successful test would mean China had made a significant advance in its nuclear capabilities, with far-reaching consequences for Washington's balance of weapons power in the Asia-Pacific, a defence policy expert said.

The PLA conducted the full test of the DF-41 involving multiple, independently targetable reentry vehicles on Saturday, the Washington Free Beacon quoted unnamed US defence officials as saying on Thursday. The Beacon, a conservative online newspaper, has a proven track record in reporting on such tests, with previous accounts later confirmed in state media.

The missile has an estimated range of 12,000km and can carry up to 10 warheads, which separate from the rocket body during the final, third stage of flight and target individual cities.

The military has previously carried out tests of the DF-41 but these probably involved only a single warhead, according to Professor He Qisong, a defence policy specialist at Shanghai University of Political Science and Law.

"A full-course flight test of the DF-41 means China has made another stride forward in building a great nuclear power," He said. "The new achievement will definitely raise concern from the US as it [shows China can] … break through Washington's ballistic missile defence systems in the Asia-Pacific region."

The Beacon did not specify the number of warheads involved.

According to previous reports, the Second Artillery Corps, the strategic missile force of the People's Liberation Army, conducted at least two tests of the DF-41 at the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Centre in Shanxi in 2012 and late last year.

The previous model, the DF-31, has an estimated range of 10,000km, putting it within reach of capitals in Europe and the US west coast. The PLA has never officially confirmed the existence of the new generation, but a government environmental monitoring centre in Shaanxi mentioned its development on its website in June, possibly by accident. The information was picked up in a report by the state-run Global Times on the anniversary of the PLA's formation on August 1, although it was later removed.

Macau-based military expert Antony Wong Dong said President Xi Jinping was taking a more confrontational military stance on the global stage as part of a wider strategy to consolidate allegiance within the military.

"Xi is facing a certain resistance in dealing with the massive corruption problem in the PLA," Wong said. "With challenging international political tension, the army would be forced to listen to him, just like during the eras of his predecessors, Mao Zedong and Deng Xiaoping."

Earlier this month, the PLA conducted a third flight test of a new hypersonic glide vehicle, dubbed the "Wu-14", after its second test failed in August, the Beacon reported. A Pentagon spokesman confirmed the report.

Becareful the Americans will treat you guys as some pariah country like North Korea. US media are already hyping up the China missiles capable of reaching them and they are getting hysteric.

Since the old ICBMs like DF-5/DF-5A/DF-5B/DF-31/DF-31A/DF-31B can already do the job, but DF-41 is the newest and most powerful one.

She can travel beyond 12000km with a very large payload which is comparable to the Peacekeeper.

China's most advanced ICBM by now is DF-41, then followed by JL-2.

. . . . . .
& why is that

What's the point of a nuclear deterrent, if you can't actually use it to defend yourself?

See when the USA sent an Aircraft carrier against India in the 1970's.

What if they do it again today? The world changes all the time, anything could happen.

And since India does not have ICBM, you can't actually retaliate against them. Doesn't matter what they do, you can't respond.

Isn't that a bad situation? Or do you trust them so much that you are 100% sure they will never send an Aircraft carrier against you ever again?

The DF-41 isn't meant for range but speed. It is supposed to reach anywhere in the World within an hour.
