There doesnt seem to be any light at the end of the tunnel ;)

Seriously though if they seal that all the way through it would be one heck of a bike ride and one hellishly expensive road.

This is known as Foreign Direct investment (FDI) and not begging. There are thousands of Pakistanis who get employment, not to mention that your infrastructure is being improved. Please educate yourself before posting nonsense.

The Indian government was seeking one trillion dollars for improvement of their infrastructure and their minister announced recently that have failed to get the requisite investment.

Tumhaaray ghar mein aa kar log invest kar rahay hein aur tum tar tar kar raha hai.

Pata nahin kahan kahan se aa jatay hein.

Please google to get the correct definition of FDI, its very vast topic.. Investing in road project by othre nation in other nation is not FDI.. FDI is the investment made by a foreign company in your company, this road project is strictly funded by china to get access to the gwadar port, it will be cheaper for them provided RAW and CIA doesn't play their game.

And the road is being made by chinses companies so may they are using the material from pakistan and labour worker from pakistan but most of the engineers are from china only, if you don't believe ask any african citizen where china is funding any road projects..

After relaxed visa regime, I hope to visit this beautiful road one day.

Though Leh-Manali highway through mighty himalayas is also one on my mind.

PM to launch US 282 mln KKH re-alignment project

Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf will perform the ground breaking of an ambitious 282 million dollar project for the re-alignment of 25 km long section of Karakoram Highway on Friday.

The new road would replace a section of the existing road, submerged in an artificial lake created by a massive landslide in the Hunza river, at Attabad in 2010. Keeping in view the deep strategic ties between Pakistan and China, Prime Minister Ashraf will personally launch the project. The Chinese government too has evinced keen interest in the project and pledged to provide all technical assistance. The Prime Minister will also review the development projects launched by his government in Gilgit-Baltistan and would also likely to announce some more, during his first visit to the area.Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has traditionally maintained deep ties with the people of Gilgit-Baltistan, and won a heavy mandate in the polls in the region. The government has also gained their confidence, and reciprocates through several welfare projects.

The road, which will cost a total of 282 million dollars, will be constructed under a US 275 million dollars agreement between the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) and the National Highway Authority (NHA), and will include two 4.4 km and 1.2 km long tunnels, and seven large bridges.

HUNZA: Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf on Friday launched two landmark multi-million dollar strategic projects at the Karakorum Highway (KKH), aimed at restoring the historic road linkage with China that was severed due to the artificial Attabad lake created as a result of landslides.

The prime minister performed the ground breaking of re- alignment of a 17-km long section of the Karakoram Highway (KKH). He also inaugurated the 510.42 million dollars up-gradation of a 335 km long section of the road from Raikot to Khunjerab that has now been widened and meets international standards of construction.

PM Ashraf, who earlier had an aerial view of the Attabad lake, the upgraded road and the proposed road alignment site, said that the new roads were part of an effort of the government to provide the people of remote areas a fast and easy linkage with the rest of the country. He said that the road would not only ease travel, but also help provide all facilities of life.

He said it would further deepen the strong ties between Pakistan and China. He said that road links were known to bring progress and prosperity to the areas they touch and hoped that a new era of development would usher in.

He said that road links were a priority of the government and recalled his meeting with Chinese leaders during his recent visit to China where the KKH’s up-gradation and re-alignment were discussed.

He appreciated and thanked the Chinese government for keeping its promise of despatching the required heavy machinery for completion of the project. Adding a new terminology relating to Pak-China friendship, he said that apart from being taller the mountains and deeper the oceans, it was also sweeter than honey.

Prime Minister Ashraf said that despite the several challenges the country was facing, the nation had to stand united, continue to strive for stronger democratic traditions and with tolerance continue to move ahead on the road to progress and development.

He said that the tendency of pursuing negative thoughts needed to be done away with. Only with greater understanding and love, we can hope to achieve progress, he added. He said that Pakistan ranked top for rendering innumerable sacrifices in the fight against terrorism as it had lost precious lives of civilians and law enforcement agencies personnel.

He said that the country also faced the challenges of global recession and economic issues, but expressed the resolve that it would rise above all such issues. The prime minister, who was here on his first visit to the scenic Gilgit-Baltistan, was briefed by the chairman of National Highway (NHA) about the KKH project. He said that Pakistan’s northern areas were a treasure trove for those, who yearn for natural beauty and a must-go for tourists from any part of the world.

He said that all measures would be taken to enhance facilities to the tourists from within the country and abroad. Prime Minister Ashraf said that he himself was a party worker, belonging to middle class and was here on this seat due to the love of the workers and respect by the party leadership.
