PIA pilot refuses to fly after emergency landing because shift had ended

The pilot's flight duty time ended, after he which he is mandated (or rather forced) by ICAO, CAA, PIA, and all sort of other regulations to not take helm of the flight but have adequate rest (it is 10 hours I think but will have to check up on the rule again).

He did everything by the book and by the norms.

Agr yehi pilot flight ura leta the media would have been like 'qawaneen ki dhajjian', and people like the OP would be making a thread about why the pilot took off.

People, have some common sense and only make a thread as a matter of fact if you know the details of the incident at hand or have an understanding of the topic, otherwise, please keep your bias and taunts away and just report the matter and leave the judgement for later.

Crew Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) must be followed no matter how much these passengers protest .
Yes. Very correctly brought out.
It is not like a bus where driver says let’s take a break if tired and parks it and takes a nap.
News agency
News agencies know that sensationalism sells. Such threads also sell well.
The thread wants to say “khota kam chor pilot itni tanakhwah ke baad bhi kaam chori?”

Do the pilots leave cockpit with onboard passengers on the pretext of shift end after an emergency landing at a third station where airline may or may not have standby crew.
If anybody can shed light
that's my point, I don't think they can, not after an emergency.
Once a Pilot(s)/Flight Deck Crew have exceed their Duty Period, there is no reason for them to stay onboard, because it is just going to hamper the operations if there is no 'Standby' Crew available. And that can be the case at an Outstation.

From that point onwards it becomes the job/responsibility of the Airline Staff (in this case PIA) and the Ground Handling Agents to provide Meals and Accommodation (depending on the situation).

At this point, it is up to the Airline if they wish to send another set of Flight Deck Crew to deadhead on another flight or by another carrier.

This is standard procedures that ALL airlines have to follow.

In this case, it was our typical mentality PAX that were insisting on traveling & possibly made a ruckus which led to Airport Security to force them off the Aircraft.

Back in 2020, post pandemic - when PIA was given clearance to operate flights to Canada for people stuck there, the passengers complained that the flight was full & there wasn't any Social Distancing. At one point they were desperate to fly back, but wanted to have an entire row for themselves.

I will end this with a thought which applies to ALL Desis.

When our people fly on our carriers, they think once they've bought a ticket, they have the right to say or behave as they please. But once they set foot on Emirates, Qatar Airways or any other Airline, they STFU...

Crew Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) must be followed no matter how much these passengers protest . its aviation rule and must be followed . most of our jahil awam think its just a bus to drive .
Even bus and truck drivers have mandatory maximum driving hours and rest periods in any given 24 hrs in the UK.
You can't just get in a bus or truck and drive for 20 hours a day.

Typically a emergency landing means high level of stress a person can refuse legally as they are not in correct state of mind

Pilot follows route - media paints a different picture - public reacts - unqualified aviation minister makes idiotic statement.

Aviation history is full of fatal accidents due to prolonged duty hours and fatigued pilots. There are specific laws to ensure that pilots get a sufficient break after flying a certain number of hours. What he did was right. We don't want to see another fatigued pilot hurrying to land and end up in a Karachi-like crash.

forget his "shift" ending, his job needs to end!

Aviation does not work like that. Stupid journalists may not know but Pilots are under strict flight duty time limitations. They cannot be made to overwork because if they do, that would compromise the safety of the subsequent flights. The pilot of PIA is right and it was the fault of the crew rostering team to arrange for a new pilot to ensure continuity of operations.
