PIA decides to widen business network in a bid to revive it's glory

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has resumed operations on Muscat route after a gap of over one year.

PIA Spokesperson Mashhood Tajwar today that the decision was taken after anticipating high traffic flow on the route.

He said a PIA flight PK229 took off from Lahore Airport for Oman last night, carrying around 141 passengers. The spokesperson said the national flag carrier would operate twice weekly flights on Saturday and Sunday.

With introduction of these flights PIA will have a total of nine flights to Muscat with seven other operating from Peshawar, Turbat and Gwadar.

Mashhood said PIA has also decided to restore its Sialkot-Sharjah route with twice weekly flights every Tuesday and Friday. The fights from Sialkot will commence from this Tuesday after which the airline will have five flights per week including three from Turbat.

He said the decision to widen the business network came directly from PIA President and Chief Executive Officer, Air Marshal Arshad Malik, who ordered the commercial department to follow a robust strategy to increase the airline’s market access and revenues.

Air Marshal Arshad Malik in a statement said that the national airline will rise to glory with the provision of facilities to passengers.

He said it is also being planned to start flight operation from Lahore to some more foreign destinations.

I really wish to see PIA regain its past glory and if it could do at that time, it can do it now again. I would love to travel in PIA Thank you IK for paying attention to this important state owned corporation. Seems the new chairman of PIA is doing his job.

There alao needs to be flight to doha, qatar.
Currently qatar airways is the sole operator from karachi, lahore, multan and islamabad.
A twice weekly flight would meet the minimum requirements.

when it world class then everyone would love to travel PIA, what is so special you doing it then, Patriotism is give it your $1500 when its down and take a little bit of inconvenience for the country, for however bad it is PIA is still providing rozgar to 10000+ families.

It is not about being a world class which I don't see happening in near future because it lacks the kind of funds airlines like Emirates, Qatar Airways, Singapore, Qantas, Etihaad etc have but at least be a decent airline that follows the schedules, maintains its fleet in good condition, the rats are not running around and whose staff is not involved in smuggling drugs or stealing towels
I always make a difference between being patriotic and being a damn fool. I think it is totally foolish to pay money to a corrupt corporation since it have been infested with corrupt and incompetent employees through bribery and nepotism. PMLn and PPP have destroyed it. I used to travel in PIA before 2007 when it was still a reasonable airline. As far as those 10,000 criminals are concerned..I won't give a flying fcuk. They should be removed immediately.

Having said that Pakistanis like to travel Emirates and Itehad only because fair is cheaper than PIA and then expand their chest "hum to Itehad se gye thy, PIA ke service achi ne hay", if they tell the whole truth it would be because we the family of four saved 1600 dollar by not traveling PIA.

between me and my wife; we go to Pakistan seperately; we must have traveled at least 50 time with PIA and never once any our flight was late, except this last trip when my wife was coming back it was late 2 hour because a passenger got sick after taxi so plane had to go back.

Mate, I totally and sincerely appreciate you. I will try PIA next time to Pakistan but there is no PIA from Sweden so I need to find. But I have travelled with PIA from USA to Pakistan.

So the planes are old, you're being charged more than competing airlines, the snob value isn't there either and it was late once. The only good thing you have to say about it is that the staff are nicer to you and your desire for segregation from Indians is met.

Mate, I totally and sincerely appreciate you. I will try PIA next time to Pakistan but there is no PIA from Sweden so I need to find. But I have travelled with PIA from USA to Pakistan.

I'm sure paying money to people that your country won't ever benefit from is better than paying it to your country, even if some of it ends up in wrong hands and misused?
