So will IAF place another order of 10 or more...
So will IAF place another order of 10 or more...
As of now there is an order of 10 with an option for another 6.
There are some indications that another tranche may be ordered; after the 6, but not yet confirmed. That will get clearer as the delivery of the first batch of 10 nears completion.
350 million BIG ONES each $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$4
thats $3.5 billionnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn $$$$$$$$$$$$$
THAT IS ONE EXPENSIVE TRANSPORT ORDER FOR INDIAN AIR FORCE
i THOUGHT THE CONTRACT WAS FOR $3.5 BILLION X 10 PLANES
Another 2 are expected in the next 6 weeks, i really admire the Americans , they do deliver on time if not before.
The true unit cost is closer to $200mn.
Fly away, the system cost we pay is $410 millions per unit and that is highly expensive for a country that don't project it's power to strategic ranges.
Are you sure? This is almost double what the USAF has been paying in the past for C-17s. This figure must include training, spares, setting up of infra etc etc
The entire deal was $4.1BN so simply dividing this by 10 is not going to give you unit cost as this figure factors in all of the above (spares, training etc).
Any follow-on orders over and above this intial 10 will show the true unit cost India is paying for C-17s as the start up costs won't be factored in.
Which is logical, because the US already paid the development cost, they so pays only the fly away cost and some for support. We instead are an export customer and will pay clearly more, btw the $410 million was actually a surprisingly cheap price and might have political reasons, because Boeing initially asked for $580 million and when you look at the costs of other C17 operators, which sometimes were around $600 to 700 millions per unit, you get an idea why there are so less countries that have it.
Btw, follow orders will come at the same costs, so $410 millions again each unit!
$600-700 millions for a single C17? Which countries were those?
That's more than the entire 2013 budget for Pak Navy!
