PLA count attack 07:30
1986 !
I meet a PVA(People's VietNam Army) soldier, he said in the last battle at Laoshan 1986! PLA(People Liberation Army of Chinese) use 12.7mm gun to anti-soldier......the rain of blood and meat of PVA! We lost 300 man at here! Last battle! I hate PLA!
This report was written by a PLA Artillery Regiment commander during the Second Sino-Vietnamese war. I am not believe it is but is pretty close to what I had read from the Second Sino-VN war. This report does give great details.
Note:
Mountain Laoshan, height 1422 meter above sea level. Laoshan means "The Old Mountain" in Chinese. Mt. Laoshan is located inside Vietnamese territory near the Chinese border. After the 1979 Sino-VN War, Mt. Laoshan has been used as a stage point for Vietnamese forces to conduct large scale raids into China.
Early 1984, our regiment (Regt) received order to take Mt. Laoshan. Feb. 18, advanced to Ei-Liang. 20th to Ma-Sho Hill. Then 40 days of preparation. April 1, 3 companies were join the "142 project", they fire a few around and then retreat to forces enemy to return fire and give out their position. We use heavy guns to suppress them. April 26, everything is ready and the 119th Artillery Task Force were created.
To take a fire base, we advanced at night. No one can makes any sound. We took apart the Type 85 gun. We reassemble it after we moved it to the firebase. The fire OP is only 500 meter away from the enemy. To help to see the road during darkness, white bed sheet were used. Our guns were park next to the right side of an abandoned house. 4th Company (coy) was so close to the enemy, only 400 meters away, it will act as direct fire.
April 28, 0550, artillery fire began. After 34 minutes of artillery Bombardment, the earth started to move. By 0624, infantry started to attack right after the Bombardment stop. The VN force reacted in two minutes. First shoot took out the platoon (Plt) leader. He is the first comrade to die at Laoshan. We gave support fire for our infantry. Infantry advanced by jumping from one shell crater to another. After 9 minutes, they took the 662.6 high ground. 54 minutes later, Mt. Laoshan was in our hands. By 1530, the 20 or so high grounds east of 662.6 high ground was in our hands also. We also knock out an enemy tank with 5 direct artillery hits.
June 11, 0300, a single flare was fired into the dark sky. We begin to question what was going on. For half an hour, we could not connect to other units with telephone calls. 2nd coy was also cut off. Only one Plt commander reported in and order us to fire. We refused because our men are up there. We ordered 5 recon troop from 2nd Btn to the front, but they where push back by enemy fires. Sunrise, recon commander with a Plt of recon also get push back. At this point we knew our forward position has been by over ran by enemy. 0530, with the support of a howitzer Bnt, we launched our counterattack. Within half an hour, we took our position back. 0600, next wave of enemy started their attack. Our infantry kept calling for arty fire supports. 500 to 600 enemy troops were attacking our lines when our multiple rocket launchers (MRL) began to fire. We were able to hold our positions with estimated 100 enemy killed. A second howitzer Btn join the bombardment. Until 1500, enemy forces were unable to reach our line. A reinforced enemy company was trying to cross the river and attack our flank. The division (div) commander ordered me to fire. We first fire 10 degree to the left and then 10 degree to the right. The enemy company did not made it back to their side
July 12, Enemy counter attack.
After June 11, we have learn our lesson. All tubes were under my command. 82 mortar is under Btn command. 100mm mortars were dig in and under my direct command. 12 arty companies, including 4 tank companies were divided to each troop. The added firepower were directed to routes of most likely enemy advance. Those paths were divided up. Each coy is in charge a selection of the path. Two companies will fire at the main road to slow down the enemy advance. Three MRL companies were stationed in 152 high ground. One of them will be command by Li Hai-Ren. The code name for firing was Wild Boar.
We knew what the attacking enemy units were by July 12. Our guess were the VN 356th Div's two Regt, one Regt from the 316th Div, and 6 other independent regts will take part.
We also predicated the enemy will attack at 0500. At 0000, we had 2.5 times of normal ammo ready for our artillery. 0300, HQ give out 3 locations and ordered 3 arty companies to fire at them randomly.
After the fire salvo, I spoke to the infantry Regt commander Chang Yo-Hop. I asked him if he was the enemy commander where would be the most likely area to attack? He pointed out to the a 300 meter clearing to the north of the rive.
I agreed with him and order 6 arty companies to target 1000 meters around that area. I reported this decision to the arty command. The vice Div commander gave me the go ahead. I ordered the guns to fire a salvo every 10 minutes. After the second salvo, nothing seem to happen &((&@)! (deleted Chinese dirty words) I order flares to fire and the result was nothing. Wasted ammo. HQ ordered us to stand down. It is after 0300, many troops went directly to sleep.
Only later that we have found out the VN attacking force was only 500 meters away from our line. Two VN Btn commanders were kill on the spot. Even without their commanders the VN troops did not give out their position. Even their wounded did not scream. They quickly move the wounded out of the area after the flare went down. Their discipline was unbelievable.
0500, all hell broke lose. Fire fights happened at all points. We also got our first POW at this point after had causing heavy casualties on the enemy. From the POWs, we had found out what happened in earlier evens. The enemy force was so discipline that they launched their attack by following the time table even without their Btn commanders. The enemy also did an excellent job in avoided detection. They did not even use any wireless communications before their assault.
Once the enemy started the attack, the front called for fire support. I was worry about hitting our own men. HQ reminded me to shield off the front line by firing at the second wave. The first wave of attack was usually only a coy strength. Where as the rear could be a whole Regt supporting it. Our MRL fire 13 salvos nonstop. In addition to 85mm howitzer, 100mm mortar, 152mm howitzer had also joined the fire support.
We fire 200 meter ahead of the front at six points. From left to right and back to the left again. Our artillery fires created a firewall around our front. We killed many enemies and some of our tubes were growing bright red. That day, our Regt fired over 10,000 rounds.
By noon, all our rounds have been expended. When this info reached Chang Yo-Hop, he was not happy. Without our arty firewall, there was no way to stop another attack by those six VN regiments. I already ordered ammo replenishment since the early morning when the first shot were fired.
When 470 truckloads of ammo arrive at 1300, VN forces already took over the 164 high ground. One of their Btn was down to only 6 people left and they were still keep going. A counter attack was conducted right away by our infantry. The heavy artillery bombardment just prior to our counter attack took 2 cm off the top soil on that hill. The hill was back in our hands in 15 minutes. VN force refuses to gave up. Waves and waves of the enemy infantry were sent back up the hill. After it was over, we counted around 3700 enemy dead bodies were left on the battlefield. Our Div commander, who was a veteran of the civil war, he said he never saw that many dead bodies since that war. We took the weapons and the belt off each VN body and gave them to each one in our Regt. That night, 7 of us in the Regt command with Chang Yo-Hop smoked 4 packs. We could not eat. We just keep drinking until 4 cases of "Spirits" were gone.
July 14, we gave signal to let the VN to recover their dead. We ask them to carry a red cross flag, under 50 people and no weapons. 60 to 70 VN troops showed up and without any flag. Once we notice they were breaking the agreement by carrying an AA gun, we open fired. We did not care. None of the 60 survived. No more recovery detail was conducted afterward. It was summer, hot and rainy. No one can stand the dead bodies anymore. We had to send our anti-chemical units out to burn all those bodies with flame throwers.
Axis History Forum • View topic - Borderwar Vietnam - China(1979-1989)!
In May 1981 and again in April 1984, fierce fighting broke out between the two side. China's military regions took turns engaging the Vietnamese. The Survey says that in one 100-day battle, Chinese forces captured more than fifty elevated locations.
The flames of war engulfed this remote southwest border county for a full decade. Laoshan, near the port of Tianbao thirty kilometers from Malipo, was the site of a battle known throughout the country.
October 14, 1986: After leading the attack on the Vietnamese position, Ma Quanbin, captain of the strike force, reports to the command*
The 959 PLA soldiers and support militia who died in the battle are buried at Malipo Martyrs Cemetery, and the remains of others were returned to their hometowns after cremation. The dead come from 19 provinces. The youngest was only 16, and some of the soldiers had only been enlisted for three months when they died in battle.
.............
A broken generation
When the war was finally over in 1992, combat troops left Laoshan.
Three decades after the Sino-Vietnamese War
You can attack VN again to see if we can drop CBU-55 or not, rumor said: we droped CBU-55 in 1979, that why, we killed up to 26,000 well trained PLA troops.terranMarine said:Yes the US dropped the CBU 55 by cargo plane in Vietnam back in those days. Would it be possible for Vietnam to do the same to China today? .
Your air defenses can't move too close VN's territory nor to disputed zone in SCS(east sea), your jet fighter can't flight constantly and our S-300 with the range 300km will take care of them too.terranMarine said:China's air defenses and fighter jets can easily take down a cargo plane.
It will be cancel again if it inside disputed zone with VN, just like the deal between CHina-Phil in 2004.Fanling Monk said:So China and Philippines begin joint oil/gas developments in SCS?

Dude, 959 PLA soldiers died in that battle and you just simply said:'there is no such link' ??LOL I knew you're going to pop up and say that!
@terranMarine:
Don't bother to search, there is no such link.

I also don't think China will attack Vietnam on lands. The border between the two countries has been resolved; The border demarcation has been completed. Vietnam and China is no longer any land border disputes and in the Gulf of Tonkin.China has no plans to invade Vietnam.
Using of firing rockets from China to Vietnam will not solve any problems. You should know that Americans used hundreds of bomber B-52 dropping millions of tons of bombs on Vietnam, but they were unable to subdue us. Plus, when you use rockets to attack our cities, there is no reason we could not do it with you. Guangxi, Yunnan, Guanzhou, Hainan ... within range of our missiles.Plus China's rockets can reach Vietnam without sending troops to Vietnam soil.
When Americans were forced to withdraw from Vietnam, they left the armories, so many bombs, and many aircraft, including bombers. You peace of mind, we have the means to drop the huge bombs on your head, if you invade our country.I guess you still live in the past thinking that your weapons can easily hit the targets. The CBU 55 is a huge bomb and how do you plan to drop it?
We have warships capable of hunting submarines and submarine hunting helicopters.Just think about how our submarines suddenly show up and fire missiles from a long distance and can easily dive back into deep sea. How can Vietnam defend something like that? SU 30KMI won't save you from these long distance missiles.
Khmer Rouge is the barbaric genocide regime, why did china defended it?China only retaliated against Vietnam's invasion of Kampuchea. I know that it was Kampuchea that attacked Vietnam first so that was their mistake, but the occupation of Kampuchea wasn't supported by the international community. The end of the Cambodian conflict made sure the embargo against Vietnam was dropped and diplomatic ties with the US and the rest of the world was restored. You probably think China as an enemy and wants to occupy your country and the rest of South East Asia.
The Philippines' Philex Petroleum Corp said on Tuesday it has discussed a possible partnership with Chinese offshore oil producer CNOOC to develop a natural gas prospect in the disputed South China Sea, a deal that may help ease tension between the two sides.

So China and Philippines begin joint oil/gas developments in SCS?

Furthermore, we are going to be equipped with kilo submarines
if you can take down our missile, then we will attack your ships passing through SCS(east sea) and even Malacca when our Kilos arrive, your economy will collapse badly. We have lots of anti-ship missile for any kind of your ships now.Beast said:Citing outdated or old times warfare doesn't reflect the weak and Pathetic state of Vietnam armed forces. Remember how US defeated Iraq armed forces easily with PGM and not dumb bomb used during Vietnam war. Plus , how many scud missile you have? Thousands or more than PLA? Our missile is tested and proven, CEP can be up to 10M, some IRBM can go 8 Mach with MIRV evasive features. Plus we have plenty of S-300 plus domestic HQ-9 to take down short range BM.

USA won't risk a war with china for The Philippines, never.
Please don't compare USA with China and their relationship with China you and Vietnam, North Korea. They're totally different!

btw: we store lots of weapons in Russia's arsenal, attack us if you have the guts and you will know how many Scud missile we have, but kiss goog bye to your belove Hong kong-Macau-etc first

May I know how capable is Vietnam anti sub system? Possessing anti sub sensor/sonar is one thing. Possessing advance capable and obsolete system is another thing. Is yr system belongs to those export version of Russia?
Then why didnt u drop on us on 1979 border war?
Hehe, if you're powerful then why did you retreat from Laosan mt. in 1992 and left 959 soldiers died in vain?? why we control most of SCS(east sea) with 40 shoals and you only have 7 in Spratly ??You don't really know how powerful China and PLA has become? I bet you don't even has time to launch yr scud missile , you have already flatten by us...
Kilo sub? It an antique in PLAN. We relegate it to coastal patrol and now using our new YUAN AIP sub. We know all the trIcks and weakest of kilo. While u know nothing of our YUAN sub. I bet yr kilo don't even know what sunk you...

On the potential application of the Type 636 attack submarines and Su-30 MK2V multirole fighters in the SCS, Yin replies that the Type 636 attack submarines can be a major threat in the SCS. Yin adds that Vietnam has designated a submarine ambush zone in the Straits of Malacca for its tactical training. Yin says that the Straits of Malacca is a shipping lifeline of many countries including China, the United States, Japan and South Korea. "By designating a submarine ambush zone over there, it is to destroy the means of livelihood for everybody because it [Straits of Malacca] is everybody's lifeline," says Yin.
