BrahMos Aerospace, a joint venture by India and Russia, is on a marketing drive for its powerful anti-ship supersonic cruise missiles in south-east Asia and the Middle East, in a total of 14 countries. The missile is considered the world’s deadliest and can hit a target at speed of around Mach 3 (ie, three times the speed of sound).

In a major development that could change the power dynamics in south-east Asia, the Philippines signed an agreement for a potential supply of BrahMos cruise missiles on Tuesday, the country's Department of National Defence revealed.

Present at the signing ceremony, held at Camp Aguinaldo - the headquarters of the Armed Forces of the Philippines - were Raymundo Elefante, Undersecretary at the Department of National Defence, and India’s Ambassador to the Philippines, Shambhu Kumaran.

“We are buying the BrahMos missiles,” Defence Secretary of the Philippines, Delfin Lorenzana, said after the signing ceremony without giving any further details.

The BrahMos is a medium-range supersonic missile that can be launched from submarines, ships, planes or land. The Indian Air Force used air-launched BrahMos missiles in the Ladakh region during the border stand-off with China.

Lorenzana said the agreement served as guide for the Philippines and India on “policies and procedures in defence procurement.” Indian defence ministry sources told Sputnik that although the final deal between the two countries has yet to be signed, the agreement will serve as a “legal framework for the procurement under the government-to-government modality.”

It is expected that talks about the value of the deal will begin in coming months.

The Philippines Army in October 2019 activated its first land-based missile battery and an aviation regiment. The BrahMos missile is expected to enter the service of the Philippines Army by 2024.

MANILA (Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN): The Philippines and India have signed an agreement for a potential supply of BrahMos cruise missiles, a product of collaboration by India and Russia, which the Philippine government hopes would boost coastal defence.
Philippine Defence Undersecretary Raymund Elefante and Indian Ambassador Shambu Kumaran signed an implementing agreement on Tuesday (March 2) at Camp Aguinaldo, headquarters of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, according to the Philippine Department of National Defence on Facebook.

The agreement involved the procurement of defence material and equipment by the Philippines from India, an emerging superpower rival of China in Asia.
"We are buying the BrahMos missiles," said Philippine Defence Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, who witnessed the signing ceremony.

He did not provide details of the procurement plan yet.
BrahMos are medium-range supersonic (faster than the speed of sound) missiles that can be launched from submarines, ships, planes or land. It is considered to be the fastest supersonic missile in the world.
Lorenzana said the agreement served as guide for the Philippines and India on "policies and procedures in the defence procurement".
It also served as a "legal framework for the procurement under the government-to-government modality", Lorenzana added.
The missile system, which can be used for coastal defence and ground attack, would boost Philippine military firepower in the face of threats to its maritime territory, coming mainly from Chinese aggression in the South China Sea.
Plans to procure the system stalled last year due to budgetary constraints caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Hindustan Times reported last year that India has offered a US$100 million line of credit to the Philippines for the weapons system purchase, but a government source privy to the deal said it could be more.

Better to reports him to Chinese government[sic]," the Twitter user said.






Another Twitter user reminded Heqing that Hijab is very much part of "our Islamic values" and that ridiculing the same while holding a key position in Pakistan is shocking.






One user told Heqing that he had "crossed the red line" with his "derogatory" tweet towards Muslim women, hoping that the Pakistan foreign ministry takes up the issue.

"@zhang_heqin sir know your place. We respect China as a country .But you crossed the Red line with your derogatory tweet towards Muslim women. You should be ashamed of your self & issue an apology for your shameful tweet . I hope @ForeignOfficePk take up this issue [sic]," the tweet read.

BrahMos is superior to Kh-35U carried on Chinese Su-35S. Better range 290 km compared to 260 km and supersonic compared to subsonic.

If Brahmos is being purchased for China then they have many Supersonic missiles to counter this tiny purchase which Sino flankers can carry so no need to send Su-35s as those can be used against IAF with J-16s
