Philippines ramps up military spending in face of China threat

I think phillipino need somekind of crash program on figther jet, i suggest leasing grippen or purchasing used F-16 block 52 or israely used F-16 ACE, rather than purchasing brand new fighter that will come in the next 5 year at the sooner

That is the purpose of the Korean FA-50 we procured - it will be used to give PH Air Force pilots a crash course in modern fighter avionics.

Well , Malaysia really has gained the ire of Indonesia with the Sipadan - Ligatan and the Ambalat Disputes. To be honest, Malaysia has gained the ire of the Philippines as well since Malaysia indirectly armed the MNLF / MILF leader Nur Misuari in the 1960s, 1970s. So there is a distrust in the Philippine side on Malaysian involvement. As for Indonesia, in Borneo there is a separatist movement known as the Kalimantan Borneo Liberation Front, which has been linked to Malaysia funding and arms funding.
Well Sipadan-Ligitan has officially became part of Malaysia and settled in negotiation table. While Ambalat still in dispute. But any further provocation, will only be another disadvantage for Malaysia.

Issue of the day: Jet fighters, war boats ready to launch attack

June 26 2015 | 6:04 AM

Following maneuvers by Malaysian war boats and planes in Ambalat waters, Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu said he is ready with the Operasi Perisai Sakti (Operation Invincible Shield).

He said that Malaysian forces were frequently illegally entering Indonesian territorial waters located at the eastern coast of Kalimantan when the country was off guard. “Now we have jet fighters ready in Makassar [South Sulawesi],” he told reporters on Thursday as quoted by
tribunnews.com.

Ryamizard said that the Indonesian Military (TNI) is currently running the operation, which involves five jet fighters and three war ships, to attack the Malaysian craft.

While PLA Coast Guard still anchoring in their EEZ (James Shoal). Sabah and Sarawak doesn't include in FPDA Agreement, so British and Aussie won't come if Sabah/Serawak attacked.

They'll need all support they can get.

The separatis tmovement you mentioned maybe PARAKU, which is ceased to exit after being destroyed by Indo and Malaysia in 1970's. And it's known secret that Malaysia fund most separatist in SEA(Thai, Indonesia, Philippines).

If PH and ID have plan to attack, go ahead.
I don't worry about China, they have too many cards to play.

Who came to save the Philippines when we seized the Scarborough shoal in 2012?

They didn't even consider sanctioning China, let alone fighting China. :P

They just came to ask us for more loans. That's all.

The thing is China don't have to attack at all. They have too many cards to play. They have come a long way to achieve what they are now.
However, our region is _____ o_O. We as ASEAN members can't even solve our much much smaller issues.

Lets set some points clear here.

1. China does not need to throw the first punch so to speak, it is not desperate nor is it in any rush because as things are going now, China is gaining more and more control through non-violent means. Philippines on the other hand, is not in a good position, if they don't take action fast, they will gradually loose all their footings in the SCS so they are desperately begging the world for help against a threat that they themselves escalated. So far, everyone is basically giving the Philippines the middle finger.

2. Even if China did attack the Philippines first (even though there's no need at all) and wipes out the Filipino military, why would any nation decide it would be prime time to attack China? Did a coalition of nations decide to attack Russia when they attacked Crimea, did a coalition of nations decide to attack the USA when they attack Iraq? Why would a coalition of nations suddenly attack China for the Philippines?

3. Definitely not like Japan in ww2 in anyway. Japan was a born imperialist empire, spreading beyond their means, and today is dwarfed by an industrial mega giant China. You talk about a coalition of nations will come to attack China like it will be the start of world war 3 then we'd let the thermos fly, but of course, USA attacking Iraq did not start a world war, doubtful attacking Philippines will either.
