It's really just India. Afghanistan is not in a position to choose. Bangladesh is not geographically close to us, nor do they have anything we want badly.

India is throwing it's weight around. We have an opportunity to forge a decent (albeit difficult to manage) relationship with Afghanistan (and possibly Bangladesh, but that's not as important), there's no need to waste it.

Regarding the debate on where we are located geographically, The author of the article in the OP is not necessarily wrong. Whilst Pakistan is not part of Middle East proper, it is certainly part of what is known as the 'Greater Middle East'

Pakistan in its proper sense is a South Asian country, but we lie at its north west edge, and due to political, religious and cultural reasons do overlap to a certain extent with Middle Eastern nations.

Only put in Middle East due to religion ( Greater Middle East - primarily consisting of muslim countries from Libya to Pakistan , even south caucasus included ) otherwise geographically we are in South Asia . Many people think we are in Middle East , i think again due to religion
