Philippine Court clears way for bigger U.S. military role

Well I don't know that anyway sure they can send their military to go Mindanao if they can
It will happen in several decades. Countries rise and fall. When it rises, it expands; when it falls, it contracts. USA, China, Soviet Unions, Britain empire, Roman expires, Islam Empires all behave like this.

Unfortunately for Philippines, it chooses the wrong side at the wrong time at the wrong place. China is rising and expanding. It will get back its own regions; United States is over-extended, falling and trying to find its defense lines for contraction. Philippines with belief in Catholic is also alien in Asia and have no true friends in Asia. Even Vietnam and Japan can only align with Philippines for geopolitical reasons. Philippines is very weak but wants to be the forward in conflicts of civilizations. It will be tore apart like those countries in mid-east or Eastern Europe.

For vietnam and Japan, no matter China or USA is the winner, they do not suffer a lot, they just switch sides. But for Philippines, if China wins, Philippines as the last colony of Western civilization will be gone forever.

The current station of US army in Philippines in the last efforts for the West to keep the last colony of Western Civilization in Asia. If one day US army has to withdraw due to geopolitical failure or economic burden, I bet that Philippines will be shattered in many island countries.

You are over simplifying the matter of international politics.

What you assume is that diplomacy is dependent for small country, and in the power struggle between US and China in Asia, only Chinese and US matters, and all other are simply just pawn.

The problem is, you do not realise foreign policy is independent, no matter how small a country was, they are never ever a "Non-Factor", country deal with other country in order to survive it own course, but while you are correct, most country would have simply change side when one factors is overshadowing another, what you did not count on is there are no permanent winner in this power struggle. And you said it yourselves, countries rise, countries fall, but at the same time, you had totally discounted there may also be a way China can fall as well.

Now, your problem is, you see small countries as a non-factor which did not factor in or alter the course of the bigger power struggle, but fact is, small country do have an incremental factor on any power struggle, and smaller country would never be any push over if they don't want to be, and of all the country, you pick Philippine as an example, where you seems to forget, Philippine is the one to show US the door during the height of Asianic Powerplay in the 90s. If they can do that to a superpower back then when it mostly matter? What make you so sure they will not do that to China, IF (a big if) China eventually won the Asianic Powerplay?

.
Time to bring Philippines back into the fold! Congrats to US getting their colony back. What is Filipino independence? It is nonexistent.

Now China can deal directly with the US in place of the air head Philippines. This is much better as the US is much more diplomatic minded and open to dialogue.

I can't find any reference to a quote like this so unless you can point out one it is pretty dubious at best.

Or was it said in the year 1790 or something...

:coffee: Am I surprised. Hardly! There were many websites which I used to refer to but has since vanished mysteriously today. My only regret is I did not download it then.

Example: SultanPahang.com where the wrongdoing of the Sultan of Pahang was explicitly written by his ex-Filipino nurse who was raped, kicked out of the country and later conceived his daughter.

So unless one is as meticulous as some of our members here like Martian 2, etc. they are probably lost forever.

However the offensive remark were splashed all over the regional news irritating many and embarrassing some e.g. Singapore PM as Singapore is regarded as a USA ally or pro-USA even up till today.

Just like this particular chat here. In 20 years time, you will have a hard time tracing this.

Example: Can you name me the ASEAN leader who humiliated your Sec. of State Hilliary Clinton and what did he says? Or the strange remark raised by US Sec of Defense Donald Rumsfeld in Singapore about China? Or how US President Obama was snubbed in which ASEAN capital?

The problem with most Americans esp. the migrants is that they are victims of their own media selective reporting of which as one US journalists point out, self-moratorium is probably the worst kind or a gag order. But don't be despair, it is not only happening but around the world including Japan e.g. Fukishima nuclear incidence.

:sarcastic: BTW if it is in the year 1790, it would have to be Thomas Jefferson. Then the whole American History would have be change, right. If he indeed survived the Pacific Ocean in a non-existent US Fleet, he would have been beheaded or eaten by natives by passing thru' those islands you called Philippines today.

:coffee: Well statistics shown the 80% of Americans failed their history and so are we surprised by your comments? I am certainly not. Enjoy enjoy!!

China is now becoming power hungry and area grabbing nation. We need an equalizer to a greedy giant.

Choice the lesser evil as the others say. Nevertheless, being a concerned Filipino citizen, I personally salute our Supreme Court justices who voted in favor of EDCA for its constitutionality and for love of our country. There is no doubt that this action will be very advantageous in the implementation especially when the arbitrary tribunal rules in favor of the Philippines.

We maybe weak today and cannot take on a strong rising China head on. But be that as it may, we at least are pragmatic and know how to choose our ally whose values we share and whose friendship we had forged through blood.

Well, I just hope you are satisfied cos your bullying has only driven our country back into the American embrace.

Great news

Of course it's great news. Have you ever seen a domesticated canine who haven't seen its master for a long time? They start running in circles, tail waging, salivating in the mouth, barking, overall being full of joy and excitement. We expect the same regarding Filipinos with the return of its imperial master USA.

Even like China, when it was weak, Imperial powers could draw Chinese borders at their wills and China's defeat of Japan in WWII was largely decided by Sovient/USA defeat of Japan. In Mao's era, China had to be very careful to balance Soviet and USA to make China stronger.

Of course, Philippines can do whatever you like; but you will also receive all punishments for what you do. Just like your steal of SCS islands from China. This has put Philippines security into troubles and cost Philippine sovereignty. There is Chinese saying: If you plant beans, you get beans; If you plant mellons, you get mellons. You steal sovereignty of islands, you lose the sovereignty of your own islands.

.
Caribbean is not a country, hence it does not have sovereignty, and you used the wrong grammar too, it should be "the" Caribbean

Kingdom of Hawai'i is not annexed by the US, it was bought by the US from the British and French by American Businessman, same as Alaska just the American bought Alaska from the Russian.

French invasion of Honolulu - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

You do know Strait of Malacca is an international waterway, right? No country needed Malaysia and Indonesia permission to transit thru the strait under international law. Of course the US admiral laughing off this "suggestion" as it was violate the UN convention of the seas. Blocking off or denied access is constitute as an act of war.

And yet, after Obama visit in 2014, Malaysian joined the "Terrorist's" Proliferation Security Initiative

You don't get the point don't you? That's why they are warming back up again to the American

You can try, or dream, but meh, we all know this is not gonna happen.

What is "Warn" torn?

lol, Strait of Malacca become an international waterway since the 60s, go figure :)

:nono: As for you. I am not wasting my time with a troll.

Example:

You claimed that USA bought Hawaii. How noble of USA but is it true.

To me, it is just your nature to lie and invent stuff based on my observation on what you wrote in all your other posts. That is why I never bother to waste my time with you so far.

Steal? how can you say that the islands in question are China's when Filipinos were there long before your ancestors arrived. Remember, Chinese came to our islands to trade with people who were already there ahead of you. Your ancestors would not come to sell plates if there were no people (Filipinos) there. Just because your ancestors saw the islands, named them, and even "left shards of broken plates on the islands" does not mean you already own them. My ancestors derived their livelihood from those islands long before Chinese arrived.

This act is shameless on China's part. How would you like it if Filipinos claim Hong Kong or Hainan as Philippine property because our ancestors visited there once?

Also take note, your mainland is thousand miles away while the Philippines is just less than 200 miles which is well within the Exclusive Zone define in the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea .

After WWII, the SCS islands belonged to China with the consent of Allied Countries. China stationed Armies in SCS islands with the help of USA and marked those islands clearly. How could Vietnam and Philippines come and just throw those marks and claim the islands? Even if you think that the WWII partitions were unfair since both Vietnam and Philippines didn't exist and colonial powers didn't represent your interests, you shouldn't do this kind of acts. If this is allowed, China could just come to Phillipines and throw away Phillipines Nations flags and claim Philippines.

Philippines behaved like a thief and still blatantly went to courts due to political backup. Believe me or not, after this court event, I show no respect for Philippines at all. You are not just a thief, but also no shame. That's why you are not a civilized people and get colonized forever.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry on Wednesday welcomed the foreign and defense secretaries of the Philippines to the State Department after the Philippine Supreme Court declared a security deal with the United States constitutional.

The Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) allows an increased U.S. military presence in the Philippines as tension rises in the West Philippine Sea (South China Sea).

"We welcome the Philippines Supreme court's decision that the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement is consistent with the Philippine Constitution," Kerry said. "It is a very important decision."

Those views were echoed by U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter. "The United States has indicated our intention to fly, sail, and operate wherever international law allows, whether it be the South China Sea or anywhere else, around the world, he said. Carter added, that the decision by the Philippine Supreme Court "Gives us new opportunities."

The court voted 10-4 to deny a petition of some lawmakers and activists to declare the EDCA unconstitutional because it allegedly surrendered Philippine sovereignty to a foreign power.

Manila has long been a staunch U.S. ally and the pact is widely seen as important for both sides, which are worried by China's increasingly assertive pursuit of territorial claims in the disputed South China Sea.

Philippine Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin said, "our security interests are becoming increasingly intertwined, while we grapple with non-traditional security concerns, and natural man-made disasters; traditional security challenges to include territorial and maritime disputes, remain to be fundamental concerns."

At a State Department meeting -- Philippine Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario added, "Given this strategic context, we should be in a position to address such common concerns, as well as contribute to regional peace and stability."

The pact was signed days before U.S. President Barack Obama visited the Philippines in 2014. It will allow U.S. troops to build facilities to store equipment for maritime security and humanitarian and disaster response operations, in addition to broad access to Philippine military bases.

Philippine military officials say there has been an increase in U.S. exercises, training and ship and aircraft visits in the past year under President Barack Obama's "rebalance" of U.S. forces and diplomatic efforts to Asia in the face of China's rise, but the pact would take the relationship a step further.

China claims almost all the South China Sea, which is believed to have huge deposits of oil and gas, and has been building up facilities on islands it controls.

Then what? Philippines cheer for US help and we Chinese cheer for gains in the negotiation table with US. After several years' competitions, in SCS, we have gained so many bases in SCS while US gets nothing for Philippines.

We gain through our hard work while Philippines wish for gains at other people' mercy.

You can't mark lines on waters. The old law was the firing range of cannon ball. Now supersede by the UNCLOS law. Territorial waters plus EEZ and Continental shelf.

Hmmm well either the old or the new law, China is still out of tune.
1945 Japan surrendered. All iterritories Japan acquired from China returned to China.
1946 Chinese drew 9 dotted Lines and marked all SCS islands.
Your 9-dashed line is only drawn on a map. Does it have a defined boundary showing the coordinate point that bound this demarcation line? No! It's only a big pie in the sky, when your forefathers were dreaming of a big time land grab.

We don't care if your unhappy with the decision of our Justices. It is indeed a welcome news for majority of us.

lol, Hawai'i fate was sealed after French invaded Honolulu, no matter how you sliced it, it was basically under British and French spell, while a fact that you did not even knowledge this facts, and you are calling me a troll.

As I said, Hawai'i were bought from France and Britain, the king was disposed 5 years before it was "annexed" by the American, which is another fact you choose not to disclose.

Hey. Your zip is undo and now your fly is revealed, is that the reply you were looking from me. Hahaha

First, of 5 points I made, only one is remotely related to typo. You have not answer my point between Sovereign of Caribbean, Malaysia joining US Proliferation Security Initiative, Chinese rise in SCS forced Philippine with the US reapproachment. And My point of Malacca Strait is International Waterway, no, you did not address that but rather go with my last point of "warn" torn Libya...lol, and you are calling out "Distraction" tactics?

:laughcry: Do you know how narrow is the Strait of Malacca?

regardless how narrow the strait of Malacca is, IT IS STILL an international waterway. This is not said by me, this is as defined by UN

And hiding behind those emoji is the ultimate sign that you fail to address issue In forum and in life. LOL, useless poster.

not being dominated and being a non-factor is two different thing, you can dictate term of international politic but whether or not will one (No matter how small) follow is up to them, not the power broker. Politics will always have an alternative and nobody, no matter how dominate it was, can force other country, no matter how small, into their dictated term, simply because it always have an alternative.

And you have not addressed any of my point.

UNCLOS simply cannot decide Chinese sovereignty. If it thinks that it can decide, we can just throw the decision into the trash can. This is the power of Chinese revolution. Since the win of Chinese revolution, no international court can make decision on Chinese sovereignty. It is difficult for Philippines to understand the power of revolution and civilization.

9 dashed line is only in the map? Chinese armies stationed in all islands within 9 dashed line and put Chinese mark on it. Thieves just came, threw away the marks and thought that those islands were theirs. Thieves would get their punishments.

The same in China. We do whatever we like in SCS, without any consideration of Philippines mood. When you throw away the negotiation table, power will decide who is the winner. You can pretend that you are strong before the bombs come. Philippines will become a battle ground, just the same as Yugoslavia, Iraq, or Syria.

One day Philippines should be divided into three parts. Chinese Philippines, local Philippines and Muslim Phillipines. The separation of Philippines will let Philippines forget SCS and keep the struggles within islands.
